    Question 98 heads unique?

I have a 98 6 spd Z28 and recently made a trip to pick up a used Random Technologies muffler and tail pipes from a guy and while I was there he told me the following: 98 cars did not have center bolt valve covers and they had a "smaller" head than 99 and up cars. They also had the lowest power output of LS1 cars. The only thing is, my 98 has 4 bolts holding the valve covers down. I found this out recently when I was checking for that darned ticking sound. Is he wrong? or have my heads been changed? I have reason to think he may know what he is talking about since he has over 200 3rd and 4th gens on his property that he parts out. He has been doing this a LONG time.

98s had the perimeter bolt valve covers and different heads than 99-02s. Look at the cast # on the heads and post up what it is. If you have center bolt valve covers with 4 center bolts, you probably don't have the original heads on your LS1.

My 98 has about ten bolts around the perimeter of the valve cover. As far as lowest power output, I don't know about that, I think he might be a little off there.

He probably means like 10 hp. If I can see the numbers I will post them. And that Random tech set-up is QUIET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want noise man!!!!! I got 3inch all the way after the cats too. It feels smoother though. The R/T set-up claims 18hp at the wheels.

All I can see is 241 on the pass side front corner of the head. Let me know if there is something I missed.

241 means you have LS1 heads from the 2001-2002 years.

SWEET! Dude probably blew the old ones off the engine hittin it with the juice and had to put some new heads on! Lol. Thanks again. BTW, do you race your car? You have a wicked rear suspension setup that looks a bit overkill for the street and I was curious if you auto cross or anything like that. Either way it looks way awesome. I wish I had the time and money to put into mine.

I didn't show my rear suspension in my pics, but mine isn't far behind his. Actually I am done with my rear suspension, just need to take care of the front now, but no racing for me really.
