50 RWHP pickup for my Z28
Hello all. The time has come for me to attempt to add appx. 50 rwhp to my 98 Z28.
Car has 20,000 miles, 3.73 gears, 2800 convert., lid, 3" Y pipe, 3" Corsa exhaust, and a stupid little Super Chips tune.
I haven't had it dynoed but I'm guessing I have about 300-308rwhp now. I'd like to get that up to 350-355. I want to maintain driveability as it will be a daily driver until winter.
I've want to spend no more than 1,000 bucks for parts, if at all possible.
I was thinking lt headers, ud pulley, and a real tune...maybe 40rwhp there?
Anyone else have any ideas? I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject so I'm looking for some expert advice.

does the $1000 include a tune? if not, i would get a good midsize cam, valvetrain upgrade, and a set of LT headers. that would pack a pretty damn good punch and sound wicked too.

Very well. As said, I'm by far no expert.
Like Ricky Bobby, I just like going fast!
...back to my original question...going fast on a budget, any help?

You can find all the valve train items and cams on this website for good deals but if you got a cam you would need to upgrade the pushrods, valve springs, timing chain, some people do oil pump i would def do it and the cam. Now some cams are good for 30rwhp some big cams can see gains of 60 or 70rwhp but if you want drivability there are some cams that can get you 50rwhp and stil lbe very drivable. Not to mention your power band will increase, take off the rev limit cause you can make power past 6100rpms now.

What kind of cam do I need to install to pick up 50rwhp? How much would it cost me, and how much is a typical installation?
Could I go with just a cam or would I need to also install other mods for it to work properly.
If I could get 50 with just a cam and pick up maybe 10 more with a tune I'd be completely happy for atleast a little while.

I would do LT's before a cam. You can pick a set up pretty cheap these days.

blacker than wesleysnipes- 98' trans am
not to mention we are all forgetting he is running the stock 98-00 ls1 manifold..in order to get the full potential of your cam or any of your current and future mods you must not neglect your intake manifold and your intake...so a lid, ls6 or fast 78/78..or 90/90 plus lt headers and a tune will get you damn close.

The intake manifold is a good diea however i have seen plenty of ls1 cars with the ls1 intake gaining 50or more hp out of a cam swap and tune. Then get the lsx intake and gain 15more rwhp and a fuck ton of tourque i have seen trq go up by almost over 20 at the wheels with the fast lsx.
