3:73???????
i got a 02 ss m6 with the stock 3:42 rear end, i want to know whats better 3:73 or 4:10. not looking for extreme drag or any thing just something with a little more launch. already have lt's stage 3 rear end with locker and centerforce dual friction and a couple other little things. any advise would be helpful.

You aren't going to see that much of a difference going to a lower gear like a 3.73 from a 3.42 IMO.
I have a 4.11 gear and I like it a lot.Boost gets you laid, unless your name is Jon.

i think its personal preference, well i think i might be the only guy in here that doesnt like 4.10's really lol. i just put 3.73s in my m6 this week. i love them i can tell a difference for sure. Its not as big as a difference as 4.10s would be but i couldnt be happier. I say try and get your hands on some cars that have some and just see what you like.

Light Pewter Metallic- 2000 Camaro SS M6
I installed a 3.73 several years ago. Not a huge difference, but definitely a noticeable one (mathematically it's a 9% difference). Like others have said, it depends on what kind of driving for which you use (or will use) your car. I drive a great deal on the interstates, so I didn't want to go too radical. But if you are going to be drag racing, obviously you would want a 4.10 (or 4.11).

From what I've read here, you wouldn't be happy unless you got the 4.10s. I will change mine at some point. Most people who've made the switch say they lose about 1 MPG highway.

I agree if you decide to go 373 save your money! its not enough of a difference IMO. Its been said that 390 is the perfect ratio for our M6 cars. However they are not made for a stock axle I have a 410 and LOVE it... didnt lose much MPG (not enough to make the decision different) good luck!

Motive makes 3.90's for the 7.5" 10 bolt, ask me how I know ?
Whether it's the perfect ratio for F-bodies or not I couldn't tell ya.
I can say that it does make a significant increase in acceleration with only a 200 rpm difference at cruise speeds, also my fuel mileage didn't change at all.Craig

EDIT: Dumb question. I see you're an M6. So you went from 3.42s to 3.90s. Thats .48 of a difference. Almost exactly the same difference as my 2.73s compared to my 3.23s, which is a .50 difference. And it's exactly a 200RPM difference. But my fuel mileage is totally different between the two cars

I'm the one who asked the question but i couldn't log in so i used my friend turygls1 to ask. So i guess its going to be the 4:10's then. appreciate all the feed back, now I'm not torn between the two gears.
