2000 z28 possible buy need opinions

I have found a 2000 pewter z28 with auto transmission and 106k miles.
I haven't driven the car yet but it looks to be in great shape and garage kept. It's a hard top with cloth seats. They have it listed for $8990. If tge car checks out good what should I offer? I was looking at a 98 trans am but decided to look elsewhere. This z28 Is in alot better shape.
So, what should I offer? It was a trade in so I know the dealer probably ripped the seller off. Retail is around $7500 I think and trade in is $4200 to $4500 according to KBB.

    Thanks
    CC

I have not a clue about pricing on these cars... but there are some things to look out for when buying an F-body: http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118628

Went and drove the car and it's flawless for a 10 year old car. It was very obvious it's been well taken care of. The tires looked like they may need replacing soon. Other than that everything worked and no oil pressure issue live tge T/A I was looking at.

I would go down to $6500 and start there that way you can get to $7k or even $7500 they offed me $6000 for my 98 TA mint sondition 4 yrs ago as a trade. They got that car for closer to $3k. With those miles you have alot of room to play since no one will come close to that price. I saw a C5 98 or 99 for sale on auto trade loaded with leather and all for $14,900 with the sam mileage and that gut would have taken $13k or less. My friend is selling a Hawk with 170k that just needs new paint and interior and motor is mmint and he got it for $5k. I saw a 99 TA vert loaded with 80k miles for $9900 at a local lot 3 weeks ago. I looked at a 6spd hardtop Z28 with the RS package and leather in silver with a hardtop(reason I was turned off) and they wanted $6995. You should get them down or walk away in my opinion but it's your decision.

Bought my '00 Z28 auto, pewter, hardtop, cloth seats with 108k miles (sound familiar?) in October of last year for $4500... I'd look a little harder

Even though these cars can take a licking and keep on ticking... I would still bring up the mileage when discussing price with him.

Come back with $7k... I predict they'll let it go for $7300 at the lowest, and that might be pushing it.

I think I'm just gonna keep an eye on it and if it's still sitting there in a week just check in with them to let them know I still want it.

That's still over kbb and his first attempt.

I agree with konigandy6. Come back with $7k. And, he will most likely want as close to kbb as possible or over since it's so clean. So, again... play the mileage card

I never trust KBB or NADA. I always call the loan officer at my bank and see what max loan value is on the car.

A retort of " my bank will only loan $" seems to work well.

I got my z28 with 80,000 miles last summer for $6000. I'd walk away from that deal.

Well they know all I will pay at most is $6800 so if they call wanting to sell it we will go from there. In the meantime I'll keep looking.

Thanks for the links. I've actually spoken with the guy who has the red and black one. He had a guy offer him 5 for it and was gonna take it. The guy came and looked at it and offered 4700 for it and he said no. I'm gonna call him tomorrow and hopefully go drive it. I think 5 or even 5500 would be a damn good deal on that car. The only issues he said it has is it needs a little paint touch up on the front and it needs a new heater core.

If the price is right and the car is nice a few fixes are ok. Most used cars always have something wrong anyway. Another thing is call your insurance and ask them what that car would be worth as a total loss. You don't want to buy a car and get hit a week or two later and lose $2k.
