11-Year Itch Scratched!
Vinnie Zarrella found his car in the local classifieds before the turn of the century (1998), drove it home, and began taking it apart during a rotisserie restoration. Vinnie Z did most of the heavy stuff himself, all but the machine work, paint, and upholstery. Toil was punctuated by times of no discretionary income and not enough hours in the day, so the scenario soaked up 11 years, but most of it was completed during the last three. The 454 was punched 0.060-inch to accept Speed Pro hypereutectic pistons on the factory rods and crank. The motor outfit went further with a Comp hydraulic roller camshaft and roller rockers, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Demon 750 carburetor, Holley electric fuel pump, MSD ignition, Hooker ceramic-coated headers, and a 3-inch exhaust system capturing Flowmaster 44 mufflers. Since it sizzles in Rio Rancho come summer, Vinnie included a Be Cool radiator with electric fan. The drivetrain consists of a Turbo 400 with a B&M shift kit as well as a B&M Hammer shifter. Torque is channeled to the 12-bolt twirling a Posi-Traction differential and 3.73:1 gears. The suspension is stock, as is the disc/drum braking force. Vinnie fit 18-inch hoops all around.
