Exhaust system for v6
I have been looking on the Internet for awhile and can't seem to find any exhaust systems in my price range. I have a v6 and I know it won't sound like a v8 but I just want a little sound when I give it gas, the factory exhaust just isn't cutting it. If anybody has a exhaust system for a v6 that is just sitting around please let me know. Thanks

If your 3800 has the factory tubular manifolds on it now, you basicly already have shorty headers on it.
I ran with a cat delete and a late model z28 single inlet dual outlet muffler on my 01 Camaro.
Sounded pretty good without the heavy 3800 drone.

Don't all the exhausts mount to the stock y pipe location which is the same on the 6 & 8 cylinder cars?

No they are not the same..
3800 cars don't have a "y" pipe.
The 3800 factory exhaust has a 3" collector. (there's a difference).
The collector pipe is ~14 inches long prior to the cat.
On the 3800 cars the intermediate pipe mounts after the cat.
Ls1 cars have 2 cats 3800's have one.
In other words both the left and right bank exhausts dump into a single collector pipe for the 3800 pre-cat.Last edited by Smittro; 10-12-2012 at 06:54 AM.

Explaination:
A "Y" pipe generaly has a single exit that is roughly the same diameter as the pipes coming into it.
A collector usually has an exit much larger than the diameter of the entry pipes.

Show me where you stated the cat back was different? You only stated the 8 does two cats to a y and the 6 merges before a single cat...

post 4.. The v6 uses a goofy setup. the cat inlet is 3" but the out is ~2-1/4 "ish".
It's kind of an odd ball size. But yes the LS1 cars have their cats mounted right @ the manifolds.
The 3800 has a single cat mounted much further down stream, and it's set up more like a collector with the 2 inlet pipes side by side rather than coming together like the LS "y" pipe.
It's all good..Last edited by Smittro; 10-12-2012 at 04:02 PM.

Cool. OP. I just remembered I used to have a buddy with a 3800 camaro. He ended up having them replace the muff with a flomaster maybe and some good looking dual 3" tips

Word of advice.....DONT do anything that will F-up your passing emissions...I DID and though i love the power.sound etc...of my mods its a BIG BITCH to pass every other year.alot of members dont have to worry about that so.....( yeah i know ha ha on me....
) so stick to the mods that WILL pass, theres plenty of options other then messin with emissions.
