this may seem dumb but i honestly do not know the answer. will just the tips make a difference in sound? if yes, how much difference and in what way? Deeper, louder, raspy, etc? 2" pipes correct?

tips do change sound, not much, but they do. Nothing substantial to the point that it's going to make your exhaust necessarily louder or raspier (unless your upgrading over stock tips, then you will def. notice a bit of a difference), but they do add a little zing to the exhaust note.
For your second question, yes they are still connected, but getting them off won't be a problem, 2 1/2 in inlet.

i do have aftermarket exhaust just don't know what type. i bought the car as is about 4 years ago, and within the last year really started messing with it. people who have worked on my car say that the exhaust they would never change because it is set up nicely. what that means, i dont know. i do like the sound of mine while driving, just looking for a more deeper idle sound. any suggestions?

looking at the muffler is a good indicator of what system you have, headers+a magnaflow muffler or 2 w/o cats should get you what you're looking for
