the story is pretty incomplete really....might've been on stands. Don't know what happened really. They said the jack fell but who knows how accurate that is. Either way, dangerous stuff and everyone should print this story and tack it on the toolbox as a reminder that you're taking your life in your hands everytime you crawl under one.

That's why I rarely go under my car without someone else there, and minimum two jack stands and two jacks.

I've had a couple of close calls......when I was swapping the rear I had the fronts on ramps and the rear subframe on stands. When I took the last bolt out of the control arm (had the driveshaft and torque arm off already) the springs made the rear pivot. Car came within millimeters of rolling off the ramps. The back stands leaned back to the point of almost tipping over. Scary stuff. Had another one doing the headers but that wasn't as much of a close call as the car started swaying on the stands and a buddy standing in front of the car started yelling that the car was falling and caused me and another buddy to shit all over ourselves.

reminds me of the old faces of death video when the car falls off the jack and cuts off the guys leg. it takes 2 seconds to slide a jack stand in place. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure or a limb.

That freakin sucks! Nice looking car in the video report too. I've had the same thing happen when I was just started driving, had my 2K up on the jack running brake lines and the jack started to release slowly and pinned me. Thank god my now wife was there to jack that fucker back up.
No stands = No plans!

How awful, who gives a shit whether the call was placed by cell or land line, its obviously an emergency situation requiring help. How tragic

Fuckin lazy neighbors...if I heard someone scream like that i'd run outside and see WTF is happening. "Call back if you hear more screams"....unbelieveable. Hard to scream with a damn car on your chest.

I wonder if cell phones can be traced in MI? IIRC mine has a GPS when 911 is called. I could be wrong.

Also jack stand placement is also key IMHO. I always use @ least 2 heavy duty stands and leave the jack inplace aswell with tension on it. NEVER work alone, even if it's someone there just to watch..
A few years ago there was a guy out here in PA. was working on his s-10 v8 conversion. Truck fell on him but did'nt kill him. Unfortunatly there was no one around, he could breath just barely, could'nt scream (paper said he was alive for sometime). He died over a period of hours from suffocation............. Be safe guys..
