Does their area not have roads that lead away?

Last year I had to go to Buffalo NY in January. 30+ below with the wind chill. It actually hurt your lungs to breathe unless you breathed through a scarf or something.

I can't understand why anyone would choose to live in such an inhospitable environment unless they were filming a documentary.

If I ever decide to give society the finger and become a bum, I'm NOT going to be homeless anywhere up north.

I can't speak for those guys but if it were me I would live there for the hunting/fishing alone. Pristine lakes with great fishing, some of the best bird hunting in the country, and 400 lb bucks. Might be worth a few months of misery. To me that's better than 100+ temps all summer and being surrounded by sand.
