Xbox live woes

alright, so I'm finally trying to hook my Xbox 360 up for Xbox live. I'm using a long cable that hooks straight up to my modem, no gateway or router. I'm having a hell of a time. I got the IP adress confirmed, but it keeps failing on the DNS when I run the connectivity test. I went on my computer and got two DNS numbers, and I put them in manually, but it still failed. help me!!!

you have to put in the mac address too,.

first off, run the troubleshooter, and put everything on automatic, see if that works, if not, get on your computer, open up the command prompt, put in "ipconfig" youll need your IP, primary and secondary DNS, and mac address, put in all 3 under manual settings, and try that.

If none of that works, your fucked, if you happen to be living in a dorm, it might be firewalled i always had that problem.

how do I open up the command prompt? I'm not very good with computers.

Open the start menu, there will be something called "run" or "run program"... open that up, and type in cmd this will bring up the command prompt (its a DOS screen, but I imagine DOS was before your time) then all you gotta do is type in IPCONFIG and read what it spits out
