Xbox guru's, friend is freaking out!

My friend is freaking out about his Xbox 360 and I don't know how to help him

His problem is that he has played games (Forza, COD, etc...) for months without a live account and wants to go live finally. He signed up for live and it made him get a new avatar and username and now his acievements (Which he doesn't care that much) and his game progress (he is freaking out about this) is gone. He still has both profiles so my question is this:

Can you switch game progress from old offline profile to new live profile or do you have to start all games from scratch again?

I don't know enough to help him since I went straight to live with mine

I dont think you can. At least with my ps3, my 2 profiles share NOTHING

Why didn't he turn the free account into the Gold membership?

Anyways you cannot transfer saves or achievements over profiles, 100% sure

He didn't have internet with his GF at the time of the Xbox. I think this is complete bullshit on Microsoft's angle! He still did the shit, now he has to start all over. At least he isn't losing years worth of shit but still

I appreciate the answers........now I got to break it to him when he calls me in an hour

= He's been ripped. He said he didn't care about the achievements just the saves

I am still shocked they owned up to the RROD problem and tried to make it right.

If the failure rate had been only 10% instead of the 30+%, I don't think they would have.

Told him about 40 min ago and he is ballistic! He gets off of work in 3 hours and wants me to help him with a problem I don't think can be fixed

Broke it to my buddy that he may be up shit creek......he took it much better then I thought (Told him that I would help him out the best I could) He is picking me up in about an hour to see what we can do

upgrade his free account with a 48 hr card if you have one and then have him gift all of his cars to you.

Me and my buddy have fixed dozens of red lighted xboxs and they have all worked but his is the only one that keeps red lighting even after we fix it. Hes a machinest and have been making his own water block and cooling system at work. Hes crazy, the holes in it have 80 threads per inch and teh gasket slot is a couple thousands of an inch wide. I wil lget some pictures and post up but this kid is crazy determined to get his xbox to work for more than a week.

As for your friends problem no game or system that i know of lets you combine two accounts. Its not just MS its ps3, wii and every role playing game/ first person shooter online ever.

i did the same thing as your friend when i first signed up for live.....he will just have to go back into the live account and select his personal acct with all the cars/saves/achievements and what niot, and select make this profile live...and everything will come back

Happened to me as well. Never connected internet when I first got it. Some dickfuck already had name I was using. So I had to make a new account. On plus side people looked at my achievements and thought I was complete noob. That didn't last long though.
