    Woops..

So I was sorting through some old paperwork and such earlier today from a summer job I had, and found something that made me a little nervous.

I had to travel quite a bit and and one of the places I spent some time at was St. Louis. One day when I was working downtown, I had to run all over the place, so I bought a 2 hr Metro pass. Well, during my final ride, the security guard goes on a ticket check, and when I pull mine out it turns out it had expired about 20 minutes or so earlier. Well, of course she pulls out her little booklet and writes me a ticket.

She told me I would have to wait 7 days and call the number on the back of the ticket to find out how much the fine was, and I could either mail it within 15 days (of recieving the ticket...so 8 days) or show up and pay it. Otherwise I'd have to go to court.

Problem is, I was halfway across the country from St. Louis by the time those 7 days were up, working 80 hour weeks, and the ticket had gotten mixed around in paperwork/luggage from living and working out of a suitcase for the past couple months and forgotten.

I never called, never payed, court date was some time in August, so I never showed. Looking at the ticket though, it doesn't have any identifying information about me on it other than my name and the address of the apartment I had in St. Louis...which was not registered under my name and I was out of less than a week following. No driver's license number, birthday, home address, phone number, anything. Just a name.

Should I be worried? My main fear is that there's a bench warrant floating around somewhere and the first time I run through a license check, I end up getting extradited to St. Louis and forced to pay all kinds of outrageous fines and/or jail time. Or it pops up the next time I do something that requires a background check.

I'd just call them and explain the situation and pay the fine. It might suck but it will keep you out of trouble in the future.

Or... Call them, told them you heard about this "ticket" in your name.. If they have NO proof. IE SS #. DOB. Address for you etc. And claim you don't understand as you have never been out that way.. What should you do as this wasn't you etc.. They may just drop it. .. Just a thought.

Or call them up, when the operator answers, or at least once you reach an actual human, really loudly into the phone say "HAHA, I'm screwing the system!" and hang up.

I completely agree, my hubby got a speeding ticket in IL on our way back to MN, he went back to dispute (we just always try) and even though IL put it on probation MN wouldn't keep it off his record. Just because you get something handled in one state doesn't mean it will be accepted in another. Talk with that State directly so it doesn't come up later, something like that could ruin your chances at a large purchase such as a home.
