Question Why Should I Buy a DVD Player When PS2 Has Worked for Me All these Years???

    Just curious.

Also, is there anyone else here who has NEVER owned a true DVD player, and just used PS2?

We used our PS2 to play DVDs for a long time. I just recently decided that I wanted a DVD/VCR recorder combo so I could archive our home movies and racing vids. It has also taken on the role of DVD player so our extra PS2 has been down graded to closet dust collector.

My PS2 was the first DVD player in our house, until my parents got one for their home theatre system about a year later. And then got another one for free somehow...

I played dvd's on my PS2 for awhile untill it started messing up. It would play the games just fine but the dvd portion of it started fading the picture in and out. Broke down and got a real DVD player.

If you have a HD tv you'll want a dvd player....even the cheapies now have progressive scan. I can't remember if the ps2 does or not...it's been awhile since I sold mine. And the newer dvd players upscale to 720p/1080i and have hdmi output....the quality is just a lot better...and you can get a sony one for $150 at best buy.

Damn that shit is all greek to me. I'm not a tech guy, I don't like ipods or any other gadgets for that matter. If I put a DVD in a machine and it plays on my regular old fashioned 32" TV, I'm a happy man.

720p and 1080i are the higher resolutions on a hdtv....the hdmi(high-def multimedia interface I think...not sure though) is the newest video output...it's a step above component cables...which is a step above a S-video cable...which is above regular rca A/V cables(the yellow, red, white cable), bad part is the cable by itself is around $100 for a decent one.

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

i like dvd players b/c they tuck into entertainment centers real nicely, unlike ps2 that has all those wires and shit

So I guess there really is no real reason for me to waste money on one.
