How many programs do you have running? Do you have most of your memory used with programs open? Increasing virtual memory won't help. If you've used up your 1GB of ram it means you get to thrash your HDD with slow io reads/writes due to virtual memory. Not too familiar with itunes but maybe it does a quick scan of your music when it loads. Do you have thousands of songs?

Depends on what you have running in the background, you can check to see how much ram you are currently using by hitting ALT+CTRL+DEL then clicking the performance tab. i found when i was using iTunes, all though i'm 2.6Ghz, 2.5GB ram, my system would fall falt on its face, iTunes likes to reconstruct the damn library every single damn time, which is annoying.
You can try to limit the amount of programs that start up.

Well there is one of your problems. Uninstall Norton and get something that uses way less system resources and is free, like AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, and also their Anti-Spyware program for free at grisoft.com. If you have the OS disk, I personally would save all the data to CD's and reformat the hard drive... that way you're starting with a clean slate and the computer will run 10x faster, no exaggeration.

First of all these are all the side effects of having a windows/Microsoft product.
But it would help to delete your cookies like once a week, it slows down the computer as well and stop looking at porno lol, you get killed with spyware hehe j/k i dont know if you do or not
