Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the only President to serve four terms, Got U.S out of great depression, set regulations on wall street that kept market from crashing for over 50 years, ended child labor, supported labor unions so Americans could earn a decent wage for a earnest days work, created social security administration which is still strong today with our government borrowing from it and trying to destroy it by turning it over to wall street. This is nearly an impossible thing to answer. As said above - the nation has changed so much, and to fully understand the circumstances over the 237+ years you'd have to be alive in all of them to give a truly informed answer or opinion.

None in my lifetime, I have no reason to comment on those I didn't live to see in power. I can't definitively state a greatest President simply by reading on them, times were different for each one, books and stories can only tell so much. But surely there must have been a better President than the ones I HAVE seen in power...

Damn I've only been around for the last 4 but only old enough to remember the last 3. So I don't have as many to pick from if we are doing in "Best President in our lifetime".
