So my dad wants to get a liquor license for his restaraunt but its costing him $500,000. Hes still thinking about it but WTF is it so damn expensive? Do you have to get in renewed once it expires or something??

Parents looked into at one time, and that cost is about right... I forget why it was so much, but probably to line the governments pockets.

Spending $500,000 on cars for his son that will depreciate in value over time

    or

Spending $500,000 on a liquor license that will make his restaurant much more popular and profitable.

gee whiz I just can't for the life of me make an edjumacated guess as to which option he might choose.

it also depends on the location.

Few years ago before the market crashed, a license could cost around 1 million. in towns like toms river.

This is in North Brunswick. Things are gradually getting a little better which is why the price is going up on things like these

Yeah it def pays for itself very quickley if the restaraunt/bar does well. Its like 10 min from Rutgers, so I am willing to guess there will be a lot of young kids.

I just dont know why its so expensive? My aunt had a restaraunt a while back and she paid around 100k for hers and her place was much bigger than ours. I hope my dad isnt getting ripped off. How much does a good restaraunt account for liquor sale anually? Should I be able to make the money back and start making profits within 2-3 years?

The smoking ban went into effect around here. I stopped by some local bars that on a saturday would normally be packed and there was like 10 people in each. That ban seems to sure be hurting bars, the drunks would rather by a bottle stay at home and smoke lol.

We had one for years, smoke ban hurt a bit but over all I think it helped in the long run. I smoke a couple cigars a week... But can't see smoking out side my own home.

Yes but a huge percent of drinkers smoke. If you want to make money off booze around here atleast you better have a nice patio or area setup for them to do so.

You can smoke if 25% or more of the walls have windows is the rule that was added last minute. Now the bars who dont have enough windows are losing there buisness to bars that do.
