Who loves chain saws?
Got all my saws out today (other than two that my brother-in-law has permanently borrowed) and cut briefly on a big oak that went down about a year ago that a farmer friend doesn't have a big enough saw to cut through. I told him I'd cut it into sections so he could move it with a tractor.
We got a mix of snow and sleet, but I was planning to do it today so I just went ahead and did it.
Husqvarna 394XP, 372XP, 272XP, Sachs-Dolmar 116 SI, and a Husqvarna 51
394XP with 28" bar
An oak we worked on about a month ago (my 79 year old dad drove the tractor)
My son (he just turned 10 and no, he didn't really run the saw)
I still LOVE cutting wood.Last edited by jad628; 02-09-2010 at 09:38 AM.

Stihl, echo and Huskies are the best saws out on the market. My grandfather had an echo since the 70's and that thing is still going strong. After a day of running it you know it. there was no such thing as low vibration, anti kickback ect back then.

Good saws, no question. Still, the Husky's with the air injection do truly keep the filter a lot cleaner. Husqvarna/Jonsered are the ones who came up with that and Stihl is finally going to be able to do it now that the patent has expired.
The Husqvarna 394/395XP is a 93cc version with 7.1 HP stock. With the easy muffler mod done to it, you can increase the power by 15-20%. Stihl only has one saw that can top the output of that and it is over 120cc's and about $1500 (Stihl 880). The two Stihls I had in the past were good saws that cut well, but they were also very tempermental. Constantly having to re-adjust the carburetors. I got a non-contact tach for my saws and the 394 is dead-on 12,500 rpm's with just the right amount of "four-stroking" to tell me it''s not too lean. Any saw that is more powerful than it, I just plain don't need.

I hear ya on the tempermental part my dads 20 year old 034 pro is the only consistent saw we have, it seems that they get better with age my ms260 is getting better with age. Dad has been wanting to try a husquavarna though they seem like good saws

Never forget the day we cut down the tree in my grand parents back yard. We had everything down but the trunk, it was about 30 feet high still. Had a fork at the top. Instead of getting a ladder. My grandpa proceeds to take a twig and make an arrow out of it. Then he makes a bow, by hand. Attatched to the arrow was a really lightweight string. Took him four tries, but he managed to shoot his arrow using the bow through the crotch. He then tied a heavy rope to the string and pulled it through. I would never have even dreamed of doing that.

A native fella gave me this 032AV and the bucket o parts 031 in the next pic. both were basket cases, but now both run and saw just great. good compression.
On the left is my husky 61, my go-to saw when I need to take one saw down the road and not need any surprises. On the right are my two homies. a 540 in the back for heavy lifting operations and the 330 for plinking.
