Bright Red- 1999 Trans Am Ws6
Buy a computer from junkyard, harvest the eprom, resell computer - eprom on eBay without mentioning the missing part.
success!

The ECM part number is correct, let me double check the type.
I've been looking in junkyards, but apparently the proms are specific down to the year/engine/trans/gears, and it's hard finding junkyard car exactly like mine with the prom still intact.

The e-prom is just a big chip, right?

Why don't you just swap.... er....
I'd say try e-bay or a scrap yard. I'd say GM dealer, but that'd be more $ than Bill gates has.

Thanks, yeah this is shedding more light on the situation. This is all foreign to me.
Yeah, it's an ancient looking computer chip about 4 inches long that plugs in to the ECM.
This is the eprom:
It plugs into the computer underneath the panel in the middle (Held on by two screws):
Looks like this with the panel off (different computer type but you get the idea):
Slots into the computers circuit board the same way a RAM chip is inserted into the motherboard of a personal computer.

I've looked at a lot of the major GM parts dealers, they don't even offer them.
It appears it might be easier to just buy a programmer ($40) and the chips themselves (few bucks each) and then solder them in; more work involved but I'm currently having no luck locating a matching plug-n-play replacement.
