    When to water?

Hey everyone I live in So-Cal (high desert) and I would like to know when I should turn the sprinklers on, at night or during the day or both? And for how long. It has been at least 90degrees or better the last few weeks and I have noticed the grass becoming a little more crispy, just wanted some suggestions~Chris

Morning and/or evening, never ever during the heat of the day. I would water for 30 minutes of a morning and 30 minutes of an evening. If you water during the heat of the day, it will burn the grass.

When my father built his condo properties he always had them come on early in the morning. He lost all those condo's to the bank, so now they never come on

Another thing you might want to do, fertilize with Scott's turf builder. It will thicken your grass and you don't have to water as often either. I use it, my lawn looks like a friggin carpet now.

I dont think it matters a whole lot. As long as its not during the heat of the day.

I have never heard that before. I usually water at night, I don't have time of a morning really. I have never had issues with mold

I use that shit once a month! it's like day and night, because the previous owner didn't feed it at all, do you think 10 minutes at 7:30 pm would be ok then 20 min at five in the morning........?

My sprinklers come on automatically, so I don't have to wake up to do it that's not an issue, now since i know it is ok to water at night what intervals should i use 20 min in the morning and 10 at night?

That is why I miss Illinois, you couldn't get the grass to stop growing there. I also miss the thunderstorms and rain as well, but hell i'll trade that in, because I get to ride with the t-tops off at least 11 months out of the year...

We have had alot of rain lately. I just started cutting my grass three weeks ago and since the rain has hit I haven't even had to water my front lawn. I usually water my lawn around dusk after mowing.

Go to weather.com, type in your zip code and then click on "Hour-by-Hour" forecast.

Trend the relative humidity. When the humidity is at it's peak, that's the most efficient time to water.

With a well establish, healthy lawn, 1/2" of water spread over an hour 2 or 3 times a week should be enough water this time of year. Once the heat really gets bad, maybe more often

it's said already, no problem watering at night. but since (sun-)light is essential for the grasses metabolism, it's best to water late afternoon or early morning. if you wanna take it that seriously. but really, if it rains at midnight...
watering leaves little drops of water on the leafs that act like magnifying glasses when the sun is high, hence the burning.

...why do i feel nerdy all of a sudden?

No more than an hour, twice a week, in the early morning.
