when does my washer and dryer disappear?
Put them out by the road with a free sign 20 minutes ago. How long before someone picks them up?

for the record....put a note on them that they do work.....dryer just needs a cord. I had to reuse the cord on our new one.

It don't take long around here either. We put my brothers old dryer out in front of the house a few weeks back. We put it out by the road with a free sign went inside came back out a few minutes later and it was gone. It does not matter what we put out front that shit is gone in no time. If gotten rid of couches, freezers, dryer, wheels, tires, computers, old brake rotors and all kinds of other junk. Cleaned out the garage a few years ago and had a whole pile of junk out by the road it was about 90% gone the next morning.

I got our old water heater in the garage.....half tempted to put it out there with a sign. Wonder if there's any scrap value to it? There's maybe 18" of copper line sticking out of the inlet and outlet side. Wonder if someone would haul it off for me for that? I plan on taking it to the dump but if someone will take it for free I might give it a shot.

I've taken a water heater (1/4 full of water) to a scrap yard before. I would suggest just putting it on the street

heavy pain in the ass ain't they? I will still probably take it to the dump. I may put it out there for a few hours first to see if anyone wants to scrap it. Not sure internally if there's anything there worth money. Need it gone by this weekend either way....doing a new years party and want it out of the garage.

Heavy and awkward to carry. Especially when you have it in the basement with about 20 stairs. I don't recall off-hand what I got for it, but I want to say it was like $15 or something of that affect. I basically just took it there to get it off my hands, similar to your situation. I'd almost guarantee though that it would be gone just as quick as the washer and dryer.

willing to wager on that?? The washer/dryer lasted 40 minutes. I could put the water heater out there tomorrow to see how long it lasted. Avatar bet? I'd even give you odds.

There is a guy who drives around in my neighborhood looking for stuff so he can take it to the scrapyard. I hope he doesn't do this for a living and just does it to gain a few extra bucks.

the thing that worries me is that too many times I'm down at the woods hunting and come across stuff that people have just dumped in the woods. At least if I take it I'll know it ends up at the scrap yard and not off the side of the road somewhere.

Put it out there. A scrap water heaters worth a few bucks to somebody who scraps metal. Someone will take it I'm sure.

Dang, i was wrong. Not knowing the traffic around your house is a disadvantage though.

yeah.....I should've listed that I guess. It's a busy ass road.....I put my old old pop up out there a bunch of years ago. Put it on the side of the road with a forsale sign on it, walked back up to the house to get more tape, and by the time I got back to the camper a guy stopped and bought it. That's probably the quickest anything has went. My old truck lasted 4 days which is the longest.

See I tried this once. We bought a couple cases of old milwaukee. Turned out it was N/A. We were a bit upset. Put it out on the road but no one took it. We laughed.

ok.....water heater is out by the road. 5:15pm See how long it lasts. I guess there's not much scrap value to them at all so I'll give it a day or two and if it's not gone by then I'll haul it off. There are 2 18" long copper pipes sticking out of the top of it from when I removed it. I left those there as bait. What's the odds someone just stops and cuts those pipes off??

I don't know your 'demographic' area, so I cant judge how long it'll be til they get cut off. You were a bit late to get it out there, as most scrappers don't travel out past dark. However, if your house is on a route to walmart, being as its early in the month yet (welfare check time), you might score a late-night lurker.

Light Pewter- 2002 Camaro SS
My neighbor started it as a side gig.
5 years later he making $75K + and year and since the yards pay in cash, you don't really have to claim it all!!
You'd be surprised at the prices paid.
Short steel, $270 and ton
Copper $2.50+\
Nothing put at our curb side made of any metal even if he isn't around lasts for than a few hours.
