Little bit of that. And a lot of stop and go driving, I live 1.7 miles from work, a tank of gas lasts me 2 weeks. I never get over 35 mph or past 3rd gear.
The best I've ever gotten was 14 on a pure city tank, and that was driving nice, worst was 11.
I bought my car with a hypertech tune, I think that's part of it

Black- 2000 WS6 6spd Hooker LT
24 back and forth to work. But, it is 24.5 one way to work, and 22 of that is interstate.
M6, Hookers/ORY/Aerochamber, lid, 3.42, HP unknown, but don't these cars come with 450? and since I have headers, that makes it over 500, right lol. Trap speeds for me are 107-109.
Spikito, that 1.7 mile drive to work is just about the most severe driving you can do with a car. No fluids will ever come up to temp, I bet your change oil light comes on every 2k miles!

HP unknown.....SLP intake, smooth bellow, headers, high flow cats, cat back, TUNED by frost PCM, 3.73 gears.
I averaged 20.01 the other day but I had some "hammering on it" getting used to the gears. I am thinking I can still get 22 mpgs if I stay out of the gas and drive just normal. I was getting 24-25 with the 2.73s. Its a much better feeling car though now.

I've never kept track of the MPG...and don't ever plan on it either.
My driving style differs too much from day to day to even begin to get a good average of MPG. I could very easily go through a tank in a day or I can let a tank last me a month.
In the Impala LTZ, since the car keeps track of this for me, I do glance at it each fill-up. I usually am at about 24-26MPG. It has the 3.9L with active fuel management.
