what's wrong with my computer?!
what happened to my volume? it was fine the other day and now it's almost non-existent. i have to crank the volume up to hear anything and even then it's extremely quiet. i've even gone into the control panel and made sure that the volume was all the way up in there as well. i also restarted the computer and checked the volume again and still nothing.
what the heck here? i need the volume for my online music course...without it i'm sunk.

Try headphones first to make sure its not the speakers. If its still low check all connections. Still messed up than It's either the onboard sound hardware, or the drivers. Have you tried different versions of the driver or uninstall/reinstall?

okay...with the headphones on the sound seems to me to be the same as it has always been. so then it must be the speakers that have gone bad...correct?

check your sound volume on the computer its self
XP
Start menu > all programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volumcontrol
make sure its turned up for:
Play control, cd player & wave
you can also check the main settings in your control panel under "Sounds and Audio Devices" make sure the volume is all the way up.

First off, its kinda sad that so many people these days are still so clueless about computers... (no offence)
Second... WTF are you talking about trying to send him into the bios??? Theres nothing in there for volume modulation... but he could fuck alot of things up... I wouldn't suggest going into them yourself, so I'm not gonna tell you how to.
I would however suggest attempting to reinstall your sound drivers... but honestly, if the headphones work fine, and the speakers dont, then its pretty obvious whats wrong. If you really need the sound to be louder then the headphones, go out and buy a set of speakers and plug them into the headphone jack

umm actually in my bio's screen i have integrated sound on my desktop, i have an option for max sound volume out put, second, some people can navigate through the bio's just fine, 3rd thats why i told him to reinstall the drivers for the sound.....
and just because some people don't know much about computers isnt a bad thing, they just have a life out side a computer, unlike me, i have all the time in the world to fuck with my settings and see how often i can fry a desktop......which has happend twice.

Ok.... Don't go in the Bios, you really can't fuck anything up in there eaither. Most BIOS are locked unless its a homebuilt rig. The only way to can toast a computer is to have.. for example a power failure while re-flashing BIOS. Anyway... if you have a recent ON board sound card it WILL be a AC97 style. its the standard now for on board. But I don't know how old your computer is. I think your speakers are just worn out. Good luck

See if that works, it should. You'll see the "Audio" option, click the + sign next to it. There are 3 options. If you don't know what you've got then just download the Generic Sigmatel Drive to start the process of elimination
Also near the top the drivers are set for Windows XP, Be sure to change that to Vista if you upgraded for proper drivers
