    whats worse in the snow?

a ford ranger pickup with a 3.73 open, and no weight in the back, or a LT1 Trans Am with winter tires.

the ranger doesnt have abs, traction control or nothin, and the T/A only has abs........

so, before winter arrives, I need to figure out what I am going to do......

should I suck it up, and get winter tires, becuase right now I have ws6 wheels with 275/40/17 eagle f1 gs tires on them. (not the gs-d3, just gs)

any tips, or advice? I remeber, I have gotten into a couple situations with the ranger and the lack of ABS, and I live in chicago, so when it snows, it snows for real.........

    00 Z28 sold :-(

I'm guessing the ranger is a 2wd also...yea that thing would suck in bad weather. With a cheap LSD, some decent tires and some weight in the bed you'll be better off in the ranger IMO. It's ground clearance and lack of torque will help in the snow..plus if you do lose it you won't mess up the T/A . Does ABS even work in snow/icy conditions?

yeah, but my ranger only has rear wheel abs. how stupid is that?

will a new torque converter in the firebird make it easier to drive in snow and rain, since the gas pedal is less sensitive

Don't know about your LT1, but my 01 SS, I couldn't move across the parking lot at work with 2" of snow, seriously, had to push it by hand...
If I see white on the ground, its the Max. Walk, or have my wife drive me. period. (or I can borrow the shop car)

If you have two vehicles, why even attempt to drive the 'bird in snow? It'd make more sense to spend 20 bucks on 300lbs worth of sandbags for the ranger and toss some studded snows on there.

The TA is worse, because crashing the truck isn't as bad.

thats just it, we might be selling the truck after, or before this winter I dont know when.......so, I might have to save up a few hundred bucks to buy a beater with a heater this winter or next winter.

Blizzak snow tires are a good idea. I put them on the wife's RX8, and it drove like a champ, even in 8 inches of snow, up the hill off our driveway. The year before we didn't have the snow tires and you would be lucky to get it to move downhill. Just my .02
