What's the law concerning carrying meds w/o docs
Say I have a legal, current prescription for a medication, but carry it on me without the prescription bottle and/or proper documentation. What's the procedure if it is found on me?
Will I be forced to provide proof (ie, phone call to the doctor) and that's it?
Or is there some sort of statute that makes this illegal regardless of whether I have a prescription?
Or will they be all "OMG DRUG DEALERRRR" and throw me in an ass-fuck prison without so much as a chance to explain, let alone a proper trial?

You are supposed to have it in the RX bottle. They could hassle you and waste a lot of your time if you don't do it the right way. Probably varies by state, but I do believe they can haul your ass to jail for it too. I arrested an employee for internal theft year or so ago, she had pills she was stealing from the pharmacy, we knew she was stealing, couldn't really prove it though. Since she didn't have them in a bottle, they ultimately charged her ass for illegal possession and hauled her ass to jail on that charge. I would not tempt it, and just carry it in the bottle like you are supposed too.

worst case scenario, you'd spend a little time at the station until you could prove you had a prescription. I'd at least keep a copy in my wallet or something.

Thanks for the input guys. I hadn't thought of the wallet idea, so I went looking for the prescription bag to cut out the info, and it conveniently had some stickers on it stating the doctor, my name, the rx, etc, which I stuck to the back of an business-sized index card.
The reason I carry it on me is that sometimes I forget to take it, and also that my schedule makes it so it's sometimes better to take it later in the day after I've left my apartment.
The reason I don't carry the bottle is, not only is it unwieldy compared to the amount I carry on me at a given time, but also I prefer to not let it be known that I have it considering it is highly abused by the people around me and the location I am.
Inasmuch, that fact would also cause a high amount of suspicion should it be found without documentation.

brb calling up my brother to find out where to get that size bag
I'm paranoid and keep them in something less conspicuous:
I have a mini stapler such as the one above that I keep in my backpack, with the extra-staple-compartment on the underside (the yellow thing in the picture). I can fit three pills in there and it hardly makes a noise if rattled.
Although the actual stapler is a pretty shitty one so I have a different mini stapler (without that compartment) also kept in my backpack that I actually use for stapling documents/assignments.
So I carry around two ministaplers with me.
I hadn't thought about it before but I suppose that would look kind of odd.
And obvious.
Well fuck.

Up here if you carried prescription drugs without docs, you would be looking at possession charges if not possession with intent to distribute. And even if you were cleared, you would probably be hit with fines/court fees.

Pewter- 2002 Trans Am WS6 M6
Had to be a witness for the arrest and questioning of one of my employees about 2 yrs ago when he was picked up for stealing. He had several pills that were a controlled substance and the police were threatening him with possession until he could prove it was his. He got lucky though had the prescription with our pharmacy.

If you have a valid script and for whatever reason got caught for having pills minus the bottle and got hauled in, you can simply have the police or whoever call the pharmacy where your script was filled or the doctor and they would verify the pills.
