Whatever happened to Chernobyl?
Might be a little boring to some but if you start reading about it it's pretty interesting.

I posted this up a while back I think. The last I heard that story is mostly tourism bs. They're trying to drum up tourist business and made that story up.

they actually let people near that place? My understanding is the radiation is still very bad there and theres still uranium rods that are "hot".

I used to carpool with a Russian. He was mining supervisor in Lithuania. 5 guys from his crew were "drafted" to go to Chernobyl and fight the fire ... They all died of cancer after few years.

the way i understand it it's getting to be a serious situation. the concrete/lead shell that they encased the old reactor in is deteriorating very quickly and they aren't really sure exactly how they will be able to repair or rebuild it without a lot of workers dieing.

I dont know if you guys remember or even seen it. Remember the original footage of the accident? Showed a bunch of guys in chemical suits walking around looking at things with test equipment. I'd think there was like 20 or 30 "scientists" there. Every person that was in that footage was within mearly yards of it is now dead. I believe the whole area is still "hot". I believe a melt down cant be stopped. I've heard it will continue melting through layer upon layer of earth till it reaches the core of the earth. The scientists at Chernobyl. Had no clue what they were messing with. In WWII when "radar" was new my grandfather told stories of guys putting hotdogs on poles and holding them up in front of the "emitter" said it would "cook" the hotdog. Folks just have no clue of the danger sertain types of energy can produce. Take yourself a flouresent light bulb and stand under a high tention tower in the evening it will light up. Oh and that faint humming noise you hear is the actual electricity thats escaping from the over head wires. Same concept you may not see the danger but it's real and it can kill...
