Black- 97 Formula
What was your FIRST car? And post a story about it.
Looking back, my first car was my dads hand-me-down 91 Plymouth Acclaim with a TBI SOHC 4-cyl and a 3-speed auto. Man, that thing was balls to the wall slow! All 98hp of it, lol. I had a lot of fun in that beater car though. Was reliable until I stopped driving it after a brake line ruptured and sent me through a red light at a major intersection.
I remember one winter the exhaust rusted and came apart in one place. So I was driving it without having the exhaust go through the muffler for a month or two. Then the exhaust rusted apart in another place before that rust spot. That section of the exhaust eventually fell off somewhere, lol. After taking the car to the exhaust shop, we found out we barely had any pipe left coming off of the exhaust manifold, a large empty space where pipe used to be, and the muffler just hanging in the back. To save a couple bucks, I told my dad not to get a muffle and just straight pipe it. Man did it sound mean afterwards, lmao.
I didn't have a tach in the car, but I swear I could rev it to 6k or more. Since it didn't have the muffler, it was REALLY loud when I revved. I swear I could rev it higher and louder then any Honda in town. The best part was driving it with the straight pipes. I would have the pedal completely floored while watching the speedometer slowly increase in 5mph increments. It took at least 10 seconds to reach 45mph floored! I think 1st gear went up to 45mph, because it wouldn't shift until after that into second. Flooring it, I would have to lift off when I reached 45mph so that it could shift into 2nd. When letting off, it would let off this really loud boom sound. So it was like vvvvvvv*25mph*vvvvvvvv*30mph*vvvvvvrrrrrrr*35mph*r rrrrroooooooooooo*40mph*ooooommmmmmmmmmm*45mph/let off* bbbbooooooommmmm.
Also, when winter would come around, the TBI would freeze I guess, and it was hard to start the car. I would turn the key and hear it crank, but I had to pump the gas ot keep it from stalling. I would have to do that a couple times to get it started, and with the straight pipe, it was loud, lol. *click, click, click, gargle, click* vvvvrrrrrooooommmm.
The car also had horrible understear when the trunk was empty. But I don't think the 185/60/14 wheels and tires helped any. One time I slid through an intersection trying to make a right turn. I slowed down for the turn [the road was also wet from the snow on the ground and being salted] and the tires turned right, but the car decided not to. So I ended up sliding across three lanes of traffic almost hitting the curb on the other side of the road. Luckly there was noone at the light or I would have hit them. I've also slid through three other intersection due to understeer from wet pavement.
The best night was when 2Fast 2Furious made it's debut at the theaters. Me and a couple friends got the idea to rice out my Acclaim. We went to a local recycling drop off point and grabbed a bunch of cardboard boxes. We then made a large wing out and front bumper out of the cardboard and removed the front hubcaps for that steelie racer look. I also wrapped some of it in aluminum foil. Surprisingly, the rear wing and airdamn survived speeds upwards of 50mph! I went to the local ricer hangout at Taco Bell. Everyone loved it, especially the guy in the really nice cream colored 65 GTO convertable . After I left, I ended up getting lined up with him at a red light. Sufice to say, he didn't want any, lol. You can actually see pictures of it if you go to www.ricecop.com . Click on Gallery on the top and click on page 135. It'll be the first two pictures.
The worst night was when I was driving down the major road in my town late at night with a friend. I was slowing down for a light when the rear right brake line ruptured. I rolled through a red light at a large intersection. Thank god it was late at night or I would probably be dead from being hit by someone. I was able to turn into a nearby plaza and call my dad to have the car towed. While I was waiting, my friend started kicking a rust spot on the rear right quarter panel. When he was done, he ended up making about a 3" tall pile of rust on the pavement, lol.
We just had it hauled off as scrap metal back in February, it wasn't worth selling.
Good times.Last edited by Warbird; 05-29-2006 at 11:55 PM.

- Mexican killed my car
1980 Plymouth Arrow (aka dodge ram, mitisibishi something)
It was white with a rainbow pin-stripe down the side. That was when the whole rainbow=gay thing got really big) so as you can imagine i didn't like it, but it did give me motivation to get a better job to get something else.
Long story short, it died in my girlfriend/wife's driveway and while her uncle was trying to help me figure out why it wouldn't start i walked to grab a smoke while he pulled a gas line off. At the very moment my wife thought it would be a good idea to listen to the radio, but instead of turning the key back she turned it forward shooting gas all over the engine which set everything on fire.
We dropped what was left off at the junkyard the next day and i went looking for a new car.

My first car was a 1972 MG Midget. It cost me about $300/month in random repairs to keep it on the road. It was fun and girls loved it, but it was dangerous and after th 3rd random under-hood fire, I decided I had had my fill of English cars.
My first real car was a 1976 Trans Am with the 455 H.O. option and a 4spd tranny. That car got me into a lot of trouble and returned about 12mpg. It never failed me and I handed that car it's ass on a regular basis. I curse the day I got rid of it.

Navy Blue Metallic- 2000 SS Camaro
My first car was a '73 Camaro with a 350 in it. It was faded red with rust spots all over the roof. My Dad, brother and I did the body work, painted it white with black racing stripes. It looked really good when we were done. To many stories to tell being a 16 year old girl with that kind of car, but my favorite is a stupid one. Sometimes my choke would get stuck, so my brother told me to put a screw driver in the carb and then start the car. Well, one morning I did it and the carb caught on fire. I ran in the house screaming for for father, almost knocking my mom down trying to get up stairs. I tell my dad that my car is on fire and he's like "why the hell you calling for me call the fire dept!" Anyhow, I looked out the window and it was already out on it's own. I guess I got lucky. Went out and started it again and it was fine. Needless to say, we put a new carb on not long after that. Looking back that car needed a lot of help (speed odometer only worked when it felt like it, if it rained I would have a puddle on the passengers side floor, any key would open the doors ect) but God I loved that car! And it looked good!!!!!It was pretty fast too. My bro in law (always the joker) would see my car sitting somewhere (he is the one who sold it to me so he knew the key trick) and get in and move my seats, turn on my blinkers, change my radio station and all that stuff. I had a lot of fun with that car. Hope my girls can have something that fun for their first cars!

No story needed.
1993 Chevrolet Caprice 5.0L "City Police car"
In short, was my dad's company car, had the police package obviously not a powerhouse without the 350 LT1, just a 305 5.0L. Only story I can think of to acompany the car is... "It was built like a brick shit house"
Was driving on 7 mile road when I lived in michigan... friend of mine for some DUMB ASS reason decided to yank on the steering wheel. The road was dry however there was 6 inches of snow on the shoulder and ground. So to sum everything up.
Took out 3 mailboxes, missed a telephone pole by 12 inches, jumped a 3 foot boulder, spun around killed a street sign. Hood crumpled, windshield spider webbed. rear corner panel dented, Shattered the front left suspension which is where the car jumped the boulder.
$8000 damage including property damage. $5000 damage to the car alone the rest in property damage. Apparently a street sign is $1000/way, since it was a 2-way street sign $2000. I lied to the cop and said I just got to close to the shoulder and lost control. The accident occured at 45mph.
Needless to say I drove the car home after that. Fixed it ran great etc, got into 1 or 2 other accidents never once total'd the car.... biggest reason I loved the car... it was a friggin tank in an accident

A butt brown 1981 Ford Escort. Engine sucked, radio sucked, 4 speed manual sucked, seats broken, and no A/C.
This car would drive you anywhere you wanted to go as long as it wasn't more than 15 miles away. After that the crap in the gas tank would clog up the fuel filter and the car would die. I spent more time with both hands on the back of this car pushing than on the steering wheel driving. Ahhh good times...

Mystic Teal Metallic- 1998 Z-28, 2010 SS
Black 60' Chevy Impala SS. Dad gave it too me when I graduated HS. Drove it till the wheels fell of, literally.
Funniest story though was going down I-85 up around Greensboro, NC. Wanted to see how fast the thing would go. I hit about 120 and looked in my rearview to see if there were any cops following. No cops, but the damn backend was starting to drift back and forth. The wings on those damn cars acted like airfoils and would start lifting the backend at speed. Never got the car over 110 after that, scared the shit out of me.

I love these threads. My 1st car was a 1984 Delta 88 Oldsmobile, 4 door, 305, shit brown metallic with a cream top. Absolutely gorgeous!!! lol
Anyway, for the yearbook pictures my sophomore year, we went out in the parking lot. I pulled the brown beast around by the camera guy, floored the e-brake, then floored the gas. The speedo pegged at 85 so I'm not sure how fast I got those wheels spinning. The wind was blowing toward the school so I filled a couple halls with tire smoke. It was fun and under the picture of my car in the yearbook the caption read "And parents think boys are hard on shoes."
Good times, good times.

First car was a 94 v6 camaro. Got it off of a friend's uncle and the trans was going out so I opted to put in a LS1 and t56. Ran nice except the t56 blew up first time around on the way home from the mechanic because he didn't fill up the tranny with oil and then later the motor locked up because of a radiatior return the guy had capped off. Spring broke, threw a rod, and cracked the block. It got fixed and ran strong for another 10k miles before I sold it and bought my firehawk that has recentally plagued me with trouble. Needless to say I don't have good luck with cars.http://edigras.iweb.bsu.edu/savemad.htm

1975 Nova SS. The thing nickled and dimed me to death. I did learn allot about cars and how to fix them tho.
It has been converted (by someone else) to be a dirt track oval racer and still competes to this day.
