Some of you recognize that line from "Alive," by Pearl Jam. Some of you probably know the story behind the lyrics, too.

I think I might have met someone on another forum whose father is not actually her father (though it doesn't seem to have crossed her mind). It happens. Supposedly in up to 10% of cases (and that excludes adopted kids being raised as biological children).

Disturbing, huh? Think about it - if a woman is bad enough to cheat, why would she ever admit the baby came from a different man unless confronted with strong evidence of that? (That's presuming she's fairly sure who the real daddy is.) For one thing, almost any man who finds out junior isn't his would quickly leave. Plus, women have tastes, making the choice of men not random, so that the men might not look that different and therefore the duped guy would think the child looks like him.

If the man did not know the woman he was with was cheating, how is he the whore? I understand it works both ways, I just don't understand how the man could be guilty by association. Maybe he thought she was in fact a good woman...yet she was just playing him.

No, Eddie Vedder's mom wasn't a cheater (I just used the case for the song lyric) and in case that was inappropriately aimed at me, neither was mine (zero evidence for that).

I did once see a TLC episode involving a real case of an Asian woman cheating on her Asian husband with a black man and only at the birth did the truth become clear. As a bonus, the black man turned out to be married with a kid on the way. I think there's a small army of dirtbag men who repeatedly run around with married women. Of course regular affairs where two unfulfilled people originally had no intention of cheating also happen. My guess is that men know early on they're with a cheater more often than women know early on they're with a cheater. Anyway, cheating is bad, period.

I wanted to get people thinking. Just for medical reasons, it's important to know who the real father is. People aren't thinking about the subject enough, which allows it to happen so much. Semen detector kits, if necessary More seriously, don't pair up with a slut, and don't turn into a wimp, a jerk, a fat bald slob, or something else that might push her to cheat.

Understood. I will say that it would seem that today's youth are more sexually liberal than previous generations. It used to be that, lets call them sluts... were branded as such and it was undesirable to most females to be viewed that way. I find it sad that there seems to be less 'good girls' with each passing generation.

But, as far as I am concerned, sluts are still sluts and whores are still whores. But, there is a difference between the two.

I know a lady who, 25 plus years ago had broken up with her longtime partner. She immediately started a new relationship that lasted less than six months and then she and her former partner got back together and promptly got married. About this time she became pregnant. Her former partner didn't know much about the guy she had been seeing and had no clue what he looked like.

The child she gave birth to and this fellow raised with her has a significant resemblance to her six month "fling" and looks nothing like the guy she married. They eventually had two more children who look nothing like their first child. It is a "secret" I have kept and will continue to keep as long as I live.

It is not my business to stick my nose into their relationship.

It can be "justified" because they broke up for awhile, however the guy who married her didn't sleep around and did everything he could to win her back. I know that she has been faithful since they got married and that technically she didn't "cheat" because they were broken up. They have a wonderful family and now their kids are all grown and gainfully employed. They are happy in their "empty nest" and doing well.

He doesn't know his first child is not "his" and if he did, it would not matter to him because he accepted her as his wife with no strings attached.
