Cool What ya got for a wood stove?

Lookin into getting a fireplace insert for my house, i'd like to find a kit for under 1500 bucks. Post up what ya got even if its not an insert!

Also was wondering what kind of wood consumption (ie # of cords per season) yall go through. I'm in CT so im wondering how long one cord of wood will get me if i only use it on really cold days ie below 30F

depending on how toasty you want your place is gonna depend on how much wood you burn. On avg. you should be looking at 2-3 cords per season. Again, depending how much heat you need, size of home, etc.

I hear ya, we have a yukon-eagle.... this one pretty sure... love the propane backup for lighting the load instead of pissing with paper and small stuff

    http://www.yukon-eagle.com/FURNACES/...8/Default.aspx

and a long box F-250 heaped to the point where its well above the cab will last a week of 0 degree South Dakota winter, but dad also likes to see all 7000 sqft of a house at 78 degrees, usually what happens is when i go back from college, we set aside a day to cut wood and will cut 2-3 trips of their pickup and mine 1500 reg box with big toolbox (basically a short box) and that will last 2-3 weeks, depending on A. how hot he keeps the house, B. what kind of wood we cut, and C. how cold it is outside

forget about a wood stove... pellet and coal stoves have better BTU now days and use less... coal stoves now have "clean coal" that comes in a bag... pellets are also clean and come in a bag... 1-2 tons of pellets or coal will last a winter on a large house...

idk we had a pellet stove in our old house before we moved, and it liked to eat the pellets, a 50lb bag would last a day and a half on setting 3 of 10, but it did look nice and put out a good amount of heat, but even the bags of wood pellets are getting up there....

I haven't burned my pellet stove yet, but I was thinking more like 3 tons a year

pst.... lemme tell ya a secret...

pellets cost alot due to demand, and the pellet stove is an even larger upfront cost with much much more regular maintenance involved.

Still probably better than oil heat, but deff not better than a wood stove if you don't mind the work of gettin the wood.
