What should i do for my first car???

ok, so very soon im going to be buying my first car. i would love an fbody, but in all reality i dont think i would be able to afford one right away, considering im making minimum wage and work roughly 12 hours a week.

i want some outside oppinions of what i should do for my first car.
i obviously dont want something gay like an old cavalier or a ford escort. i dont really care about gas mileage or insurance... just somethin cheap, but decent.

i would save for a LS1 f-body. It was my first car. You will love it. But if you can't wait just get a 3rd gen or LT1 they are still great cars. Then upgrade later.

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

how old are you? i get the feeling you're not even in college yet if you're making minimum wage and only working like 2 days a week. You need to get a cavy or sunfire. the 2001 models are great [economically speaking]

or even a pontiac vibe; they have a lot of room, are 35+ mpg [1.8L for base model] and though pricey, by the time you pay it off, you'll have a great daily driver and can afford a new camaro.

an LT1 isn't a bad idea, but a muscle car isn't a good first car for a person who lives in a snow state

yea dude im 16 haha. i actually work 3 days a week, just short shifts

i enjoy driving in the snow tho, i wouldnt mind havin a muscle car in it. just have to be more careful for 3 months. a newer cavalier or vibe would be more expensive than an lt1 camaro dont you think?

well do you need a car now? or car you drive your parents for a little while. Thats what i did and it helped me to save a lot of $$. I drove my parents car from 16 to 17. By the time i was 17 i had saved enough to get my LS1 Z28. And as far as your job hours i didn't work much during the school year - just bust your ass in the summer.

good idea. my parents have a 05 colorado with the offroad package (pretty fun to drive with them big ass tires and what not), and my moms got a brand new cobalt thats also real fun to drive. its alot quicker than i expected the car to be. so i'll just drive those while im not workin much, then bust my ass in the summer and hopefully have an lt1 or ls1 fbody during the summer.

yep. and the longer you can hold out the more you will save and the better a car you will get. Plus its better to get some more driving experience under your belt before you get into a 300+ hp car.

    Get a V-6 F-body

my first car was a 93 Firebird and even though it was a V-6 it was a blast. They are safe cars regardless of their looks and sports car reputation, it was the most reliable car I've ever owned and your parents will be happy that you aren't out killing yourself (and their insurance bill) with a big V-8. You can always save up for your dream car, but right now get something fun that you can beat up a little bit.

yeah i agree to on the v6 fbody..will teach u how to work on an fbody/keep insurance down since your 16/ there VERY easy to work on under the hood since a v8 is made to fit in there and theres only a 6 / good gas milage/ still a quick rwd car thats faster than a lot of rice

ahhh ive always been so against v6 fbodies, but i think thats a great idea and i will definitely consider it. i would only be driving it for a few months most likely... and theyre easy to find cheap. i mean, i could find a fourth gen v6 fbody cheaper than i could find a 2001 cavalier. so hell, why not!

I had a 1989 Grand Prix as my first car. Good on gas, cheap & easy to get parts for, and basically drove it into the ground while I saved for my first F Body. My first was a 1977 Formula and I just worked my way up from there til I got my LS1.
Now since I've had 2nd, 3rd and 4th gens I started going back and bought myself a 3rd gen to fix up

I suggest a truck, my first vehicle was a 1994 s10, and that thing took alot of shit, just Sold it last week for 3500, and got a 2002 silverado. I once had a head-on collision with a ford taurus, the taurus was totalled and all i needed was a new bumper.

I would say get something like a older Monte SS , or a GP.... You might even be able to get a 80s Monte Carlo SS , if it has been taken car of they are very good cars ... You can do little mod stuff to it , wount kill you on price and insurance , and you can get used to a owning a v8, granted prabably a 305 but still a good start ...

    Don't get a third gen.

Shit will break all the time, you'll get pulled over all the time, you'll get made fun of by anyone who owns a newer or older generation of F-body, and if you get T-Tops, don't bother getting in the car without wearing swim shorts.

Even if you already had a daily driver and a garage for the third-gen, don't. Sell both and get a worth while car, or even a better daily driver.
