What kind of floor jacks are you guys using?

I have a light weight alumuinum floor jack that I bought from Sears a while back because it had a low "minimum height" of only 3 1/2" dropped. The problem is the jack itself is so short that when I put it under the rear of the Camaro have to slide it so far under that I can't pump the handle.
I guess I need to find a jack that has a long enough lift arm for me to be able to put it under the pumpkin without having half the handle stuck under the car. I hope that makes sense.
Thanks in advance for any input,
    Mike

This is more like it. Mine is white, so it might be slightly different. But I can reach any part of my TA, this one would do an exceptional job as well. Even with the rear end of my TA jacked up and on stands, I can still get to my K member.

    Great jack - Here

I have the A/C Delco lightweight aluminum jack($100) and a 2.5 ton A/C Delco jack($175). I got both of them from OReilleys, I love both of them.

    Sadly now demodded :(

I got an Aluminum one from Harbor Freight. Works great when I swap from street tires to the Mickey's.

BTW: I did the same as you - bought a cheapie from Sears but it was too short to really work right.

Thats one thing I dont have. My jack is not in any way, Lightweight. But it is the lowest, longest designed jack I have came across.

I had trouble with exactly that on my last '72 with a 5.5/7.5 drop including the shorter tires. This was trying to jack the truck up by the front crossmember but the bumper height was low and the crossmember is pretty far back. So you get maybe a quarter inch of movement at the handle at a time, took forever.

I love having that lightweight jack. Much easier to transport/haul around than that heavy ass 2.5 ton jack. Z28Thunder use to make fun of me saying thats not a real jack, well no shit, but it sure beats the hell out of toting around a jack that weighs 50+ pounds, and it gets the job done.

Good info here. I hate my floor jack. I have to pull up onto two blocks (2x4's) so my car is up high enough to get the floor jack under it and usable without beating the shit out of the front fascia.

I might have to look into one of these down the road.

Hell, mine is well over 50 pounds It stays in the garage, period. For working on the TA, it cant be beat.

I suppose the answer to the best jack would be, A Car Lift. Only in my dreams right now.

Mine is probably more like 75 pounds but I was trying to be conservative

Last winter I was putting that jack in my beater trunk to weight down the rear some, I slipped on ice and that jack landed on my chest, cracked a rib and gashed my thumb open.

You are right though, best jack would be a lift, in my dreams too

Are you serious? I'm sorry, but I'm laughing my ass off just picturing it. Glad you didn't kill yourself, but I would have loved to be driving by at the moment!

Cracked ribs are a seriously horrible event to go through.

I just ordered the first one you posted. I had a $50 gift certificate. It looks like it'll do the job. The handle looks like it sits back far enought as well.

100% serious, and it was funny, but not so funny after I started feeling it. I have had cracked ribs 4 times. I have had some serious injuries in my life, but none hurt worse than cracked ribs, you are miserable for 4 weeks.
