    what I've been up to......

Competed in our first bbq contest last week. Placed 15th overall out of 30 teams. Took 10th in chicken, 6th in pork, and 3rd in ribs. Really fubar'd our brisket and it killed us in the overall. Had we not done that we were a top 5 team. Not bad for our first time out and considering we were by far the smallest team there. The guy across from us said he paid $28k for his smoker.....we finished 3 places better in the overall.
If there was a medal for "most beer drank" we definitely would've taken first in that. Next contest is July 8-9 and our goal is to drink more beer at this one than the last one.....and we may cook some food.

We go by ROWCO BBQ "Rockin' Out With our Cocks Out"

We even have a mascot on a banner and everything.

Thats too cool, congrats. I've always wanted to test my metal in a BBQ contest. It's on my bucket list. I'm better at grilling than BBQ

Or you could bring some to the LS1.com picnic this year since it's at my place. Would be a little closer......and the grill will already be fired up.

my buddy drew that, took a picture of it, and emailed it to me. I used photoshop to color it in. There's all kinds of inside joke type shit hidden in the picture. We used to swap texts and I'd ask what he was doing and he'd say "rockin' out with my cock out." After a while it got shortened to ROWCO. That picture is small so a lot of the detail doesn't show.
On the pocket of the bibs is the number "62". A long running joke we've had. My parents died a year apart and both were 62 when they died. I've always said it doesn't take some complex formula to figure out when I'm gonna kick the bucket. So as we've drank more and more beer over the years and eat BBQ on a way to regular basis it's become the "race to 62" between all of us.
There's also a set of nipples on the chicken. A guy at a party we were cooking at one time was wearing bibs with no shirt on. Everytime he'd come up to get more bbq his nipples would be sticking out of the bibs and hard enough to cut glass. We laughed at this guy all damn day so the rooster had to get a set too.

yeah...we had a blast doing it. At the very least we gave the people around us something to talk about at work on Monday. All these teams were up early and all serious and stuff. We were up early......drinking beer. All 3 of us were sitting around the smoker drinking beer at 5:30am. One of the other competitors came over and said "see you guys have your morning coffee".
I've only had the black car out 3 times this year. Damn rain. If it's not raining I'm doing other stuff that I couldn't do because of the rain. Drive it less and less each year it seems. I looked and last year I put a whopping 800 miles on it.

do it.....it's a good time. You need a couple buddies though and a bunch of beer. At least that's what I would recommend.

trust me....I'm kicking some brisket ass in the next contest. I'm focusing all of my attention on it.

The guy across from us was like Myron. He was there for the money. He had a lot of money tied up in his equipment though too. We were there to have a good time and we did. I've never seen that many BBQ nerds in one place. Everyone had all these timers, warning beepers, induction fans, and all that crap going. We spent most of our time setting up our radio and putting the beer cooler in the best possible location.

where is your place at? When is the picnic? And do you have room for a 34' fifth wheel and a trailer full of smokers?

Nice! That looks like it would be a blast. Who doesn't love some BBQ meat.

On a side note, who cleaned up the mess after everything was cooked?
