What if Smokey&The Bandit used a Mustang?

Heaven forbid just thinking of it. But I ran across some pictures of 77-78 Mustang Cobra II's and King Cobra's. It looks like Ford was trying to copy the look of the Trans Am's of the same year.

Scroll down to 1977-1978 for pictures. http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~bmclean/pages/m2_pics.htm

then people would stop looking at our cars and thinking of burt renolds. i wish they used a mustang in that movie, it basically made the trans am the epitome of all redneck-cars

    Lets see a 1977 140 HP Mustang II or a 1977 T/A 400?

Hands down it would be the T/A, that 400 was a sweet engine.

If they had used a Mustang, it would have called it "Busted in 60 Seconds!"

and burt would have been a support role while Jack Gleason wsa the Star.

Too bad it only produced 180hp with the 400.

If they used the Mustang in the movies the TA would have been dead. That movie helped the F-bodys that year sell over 100,000 units that year. Think about it. That was one of the only times that the F-bodys out sold the Mustang.

Had the T/A not been the star car of Smokey & The Bandit, it's doubtful you would have ever been able to buy a 4th gen T/A.

Burt would have never gotten Loni Anderson to give up the stinky in a Mustang. Never.

Generally the Olds 403 came with an automatic tranny and the Pontiac 400 could be had with a 4-speed. In Cali the 400 4-speed was not offered.

The Pontiac V-8 was a sweet high torque motor with almost modular characteristics. The block was physically the same for 326, 350, 383, 400, 421, 428 and 455s. They all shared starters (there were high torque options) water pumps, heads fuel pumps, intakes etc.

My first ride was a 1970 Firebird, the 350 took a dump and I got a 455 from a wrecking yard and dropped it in. Holy crap! that car flew. The 455 had a long stroke, 4.21 inches and has max torque at 2700 rpms. I miss that car
