HTML is Hypertext Markup Language.
It's a scripting language that web browsers parse and render and display to you. The forum software strips out html tags from your posts to prevent you from doing all sorts of mischievous things to the way the page gets rendered.

and also the end quote has the / in front of the word quotequote tags incased in the [] will give you this box
