What do sherriff deputies do?
I keep seeing these job posting for sherriff deputies in my town with a salary of $2k per month with benefits wich is pretty good. What exactly do sherriff deputies do? How does it differ from regular cops etc?

They are the regular cops, the sherriff's are their supervisors, in a sense.

They are law enforcement officers with county jurisdiction instead of city jurisdiction.

My friend is one in the county I live in. He does drug busts, warrants, prisoner transporting, etc... drugs are probally the biggest problem around here, so I know he keeps busy.

My interpretation is as stated by the other guys, in some areas the sheriffs are king shit. The sheriffs office in higher populated areas arent as much a factor. But in parts of states like Texas, whoa you better watch out. They ARE the law.

If you apply you'll probably have to do a few years in the jail after you pass your FTO time on the street...and then you'll have the opportunity to go back on the street. That's the way it is around here anyway..

Texas has a real crazy ass structure of law enforcement departments. I guess it is a way to create jobs...
In TX the sheriff has top authority in the County. The rangers primarily deal with warrants and serving them. Probably some other stuff too, but I have no clue what it is.
Technically speaking the Game Wardens or Park Rangers, what ever you want to call them, have the most power in TX. They do not need a search warrant to search your property. The funny thing is, they get paid about half of what a cop or sheriff deputy makes. Kind of ironic, most of the people they deal with are armed.
