well technically speaking they were a decade old last year since build dates put them in 1997 as 1998 model years.

kinda hard hitting my car is technically a 98--thats what the vin says but its a 99. O well I'll trade on a new camaro. OR just drop a 6.0 fully built iron block in w/250 shot

if you bought an '09 model year car then it's an '09...but the build date will be in 2008 by and large...there are probably a few instances that would lead to an '09 model being produced in '09 but i can't think of many except for fleet cars or something like that.
but when you calculate the age of a vehicle you count the model year into the tally...at least that's what i've always been told by people.
