VW Jetta TDI
I was thinking my next car will be a diesel. They get pretty good gas mileage. Anyone know anything about these or own one. I'm guessing they are pretty reliable. This one ain't bad....

This one is a bit newer, and a bit more in price. Very nice little car.

Any of these come turbocharged?

inb4 Shines-IT says he's test driven one or knows someone who owns one.
I'm with Spaz on the diesel matter. At least with the truck you can pull things if you need to.

I've driven several of the TDI VWs and they're not bad. They've got plenty of torque to get up and go. As for reliability, I'm not sure. I've never owned one to know.

I own an 08 Jetta (gas motor) with 95,xxx on the clock. I beat the shit out of it on the hwy for the first year of it's life and it's still going strong. The wife drives it now, and I'm looking for an 03-04 TDI to commute with.
As long as you take care of them they'll last a long ass time and resale value is pretty good. Most of the 03-04 TDI's have 125,xxx + on the clock and the cheapest I've found is $6,000. They are good cars as far as I'm concerned.

I have one with 185K on her!!
She has been the best little car although after my 72' BUG I swore never to own a VW. My wife has had it since new and 185K, 12 glow plugs, 2 timing belts and numerous oil changes with recommended Castrol Synthetic for German cars she is pretty much flawless. I agree the new body looks better but both are sweet and reliable, efficient and fun cars. Hers is an 02' Jetta TDI 5 speed with original clutch at that and her first standard tranny. Had a hell of a teacher though. LOL

Yep, most importantly my wife's get's average of 46 MPG and did so since day one! We have had as much as 49 on trips though. Get your KIA, TOYOTA, NISSAN, or whatever to do that. My Vette averages more than most so called "economy cars" I get about 28 with 34 on long trips!

Yea, the Camaro is for fun. I could care less what I drive otherwise. I just want good MPG.
I already know I'll be getting a c5 z06 one day, but looking for something to replace my '99 grand prix.
I don't care if it's a rabbit, as long as the mpg was good. Just thought I'd see if anyone on here had the TDI jetta.

there good from what i have heard but also heard you should change the timing chain every 60000 miles cause they are weak will break and cost you alot more.

How hard is the timing belt to change anyways? I was helping my friend change his on his Srt-4 and it was a bit of pain.
