Veterans Day
Veterans Day - A salute to my fellow brothers and sisters in the Armed Services, a hug to their spouses, children and families, a tear and toast to those of our brothers and sisters that gave their life for our country. May your spirit continue to burn bright.
Saddest sound I've ever heard is when Taps is played...
There are no "official" lyrics to Taps but these are the ones that I've know:
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
From the skies.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.
Go to sleep, peaceful sleep,
May the soldier or sailor,
God keep.
On the land or the deep,
Safe in sleep.
Love, good night, Must thou go,
When the day, And the night
Need thee so?
All is well. Speedeth all
To their rest.
Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day, And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well; Day has gone,
Night is on.
Thanks and praise, For our days,
'Neath the sun, Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky,
As we go, This we know,
God is nigh.Last edited by SMWS6TA; 11-11-2015 at 03:51 PM.

Thanks for posting that.
I never knew the lyrics despite being in the military.
Happy Veterans Day to all those who served.
And don't forget to go out and get your free lunch/dinner today from the multitude of places that offer it

I know it's the day after but thanks Vets. Met my dad at my Grandpa's grave last night for veterans day whiskey drinking with a dead WWII vet.

A most humble thanks to our vet's; all gave some, some gave all, to the lost...
Also happy birthday to the Marines (Nov 10th 1775).

I could tell you I was a door gunner on the space shuttle but then I'd have to kill you...
FWIW, my MOS was 11C which led to me being (mostly) a forward observer...
When I was in (74-78) satellite communications were being spoken of as the wave of the future. Newest toys that I got to play with (as a TDY assignment in 77) were binoculars with a laser range finder and a prototype encrypted telecom device so you could send a fire mission via secure link as opposed to in the clear.Last edited by 67CamaroRSSS; 11-12-2015 at 12:57 PM.

You should see the toys we played with.... I worked with FSO and FAC's. It was a combination of anarchy and excitement making 4-5 different elements combine and deconflict air space between Artillery, Army Aircraft & Air Force and more importantly, not drop ordinance on your ppl.
If you look up the Job description for 93P/15P it's a aviation records clerk. What they don't tell you is you are the bastard child of aviation that get's farmed out to every unit getting supported once you make NCO. I spent most of my time in Iraq with 2nd Brigade, 101st as a LNO.

I am taking a trip to see my grandparents next month. My Grandfather served in the Marines during WW2. Served entirely in the Pacific theater, was stationed on Midway Island during the battle of Midway, and then took part in several other campaigns throughout the south pacific. I probably wouldn't be here if it weren't for the atomic bombs.this post is meant as a joke and in no way should it be interpreted as a serious or meaningful reply. My Step-father was a grunt in the 1st Cav during WWII which served in the Pacific. He'd been in for almost 2 years when Pearl Harbor was bombed. I remember him telling me he'd heard of but never saw an M1 Garand until he was half way to Guadalcanal...

My dad's dad was WWII anti-air gunner on a destroyer in the pacific. Mom's dad was a Marine in Korea.
My Dad sold his parents house a couple months ago. We found lots of awesome stuff but the first thing I grabbed was a machete my Grandpa picked up in the pacific during the war. The scabbard is effed but the machete itself is still in ok shape.

The Pacific fight of the war was brutal as Hell. Europe was bad, but reading about the island hopping campaign makes it pale in comparison. Japanese soldiers literally fought to the death over surrender. Plus they very rarely took prisoners.
I've met 2 MoH awardees from Vietnam, both very modest and humble ppl.
