Verizon wireless plans
So i've had Verizon for a few years and the coverage i get has been good.
So i want to get a PDA/smart type phone. Figure it would be nice to have a phone that i can actually review documents and do some work stuff on...
Now comes the rant! Why can't you get a sart phone without being forced to upgrade my calling plan with email/unlimited web access for another $30mo? All the phones i've looked at are wifi capable, which would allow me to access what i need at any wifi hotspot, so why would i need to pay for unlimited web access?
end of rant...
Those of you that have these plans what is the differance between:
email/unlimited web access for $29.95mo
unlimited data for $44mo
The phones i was looking at were:
Motorola Droid
Blackberry Storm 2

Verizon and all the carriers want to suck your wallet dry. It's painful to deal with and but here's a thread (fairly long) but talks about the same stuff you're looking at now.

The charge for a blackberry should be $29.95 for email and unlimited data. I think the business plan is $45 per month.

Wifi would allow me to check email when i want to. I don't need to be that "in touch" with work.
I would like the capabilities associated with these smart phones... reviewing documents, power point slides, etc.
Just annoying that i'd have to pay $35mo for my home internet, and then have to pay $30mo just to occasionally use it on my phone.
No logical reason why they can't sell these phones without requiring the extra plan $$$. U wanna charge an extra $50 up front for not using your unlimited service great, just let me use the phone with my existing plan!

I bought the blackberry curve xmas of last year for when I was mobing up, since I knew the army wouldnt provide any sort of internet connection at some of the places I would be. So I had them put on my plan where I could hook my cell phone up to my laptop and use it for internet like that other than my phone worked really well not the fastest in the world but better than nothing. Only problem I ever had with verizon is the bills and customer service every time I had a problem with my bill it took them forever to fix it and that would give me a big hassle over it. Cause I once used to have a internet card that I called in and reported stolen which it was. And I told them I just wanted to cancel it and I would pay the fee to, well needless to say I payed the fee and they left it on and kept charging me for it 6 months afterwords, and I called them and had another big round about with them till it got fixed and they realized what happend and they credited me for it. But overall verizon has great coverage and have loved everything they offer but they suck ass sometimes.

I got stuck with the same shit. They even made me upgrade my calling plan which I thought was BS. Although I hadn't got a new phone in like three years so my plan didn't even exist anymore, but still. NAZIS

Going through similar billing issues with Verizon now.
I returned a MIFI within their 30 day return policy and 2+ months later still have billing issues. 1st they continued to bill the mo service and charged me an early termination fee. Called in got those refunded... on same bill that they refunded everything they charged another early termination fee, WTF. Time for another call.
Still considering if the $30mo extra for smart phone plan is worth it to me. It seems that everyone loves the new Droid though...

Glad I am not the only one with those kinds of problems, I think I am going to upgrade to the new storm 2 when I get back home, I loved my curve and it is pretty amazing of what it can do. I probably wont ever go back to a regular cell phone again, since the blackberrys is everything in 1 pretty much. It also took them forever to put a cease on my account when I deployed also, even after I gave them a copy of my deployment orders it was rediculous.

Yea it's gay, AT&T does the same shit so don't feel alone. The thing that makes it worth it to me is you can tether your iphone to your laptop/netbook. So if you're not in a hotspot you can still get the net through usb or bluetooth.

So when your tethered to your smart phone to access internet on a computer how is it charged on the cell bill? covered under the email/unlimited web access ($30mo), unlimited Data package ($45mo) or did they think of another creative way to bill even more to do this?

Nazi(s): Sometimes Offensive. Person/persons who is/are fanatically dedicated to or seeks to control a specified activity, practice, etc.
They fanatically dedicate themselves to controlling my cell phone subscription type. They give me no choices. They force me into it by leaving me no recourse what so ever.
I stand by my original statement. NAZI SWINE!

Can't you just pay retail for the phone and then just use it on your current plan?
