    Vacuum for hardwood floors

Is there a vac out there that is good on hardwood floors. I have hardwood floors through out the whole house and one area rug. I have a vac but when i vac the floor the beater brush throws dirt behind me and it doesn't pick up the dirt. I know Dyson has a vac that you can turn off the beater brush but it is way to expensive. Just wanted to know what everyone else uses on hardwood or tile floors. Any Suggestions?

Canister vacuums with special bare floor attachments are the surest way to get rid of all the dirt and dust, don’t use vacuums with beater bars as they will eventually scratch the floor.

Also, use a good dust mop --- one with a 12- to 18- inch cotton head ---- and a special dust mop treatment. Spray the treatment onto the mop head 12 to 24 hours before dust mopping.

Broom is bad because it actually can force the dirt in between the hardwoods therefore trapping it. Makes it harder over the long term to keep them clean looking.

My last set got the treatment. Cannister vac on it every 3-4 days since we had a dog. Then the mop was treated 12 hours before so as to not have moister on the floor and it looked great for 5 years. Sold the house then. I used to install them and treat them when I was younger.

I bought an Oreck a few years ago and it has two speeds, On low speed, this vacuum works very well on hardwood and tile floors. It doesn't kick everything out the back of the vacuum.

My regular vacuum works on hard floors because you can turn off the brushes. It has a hard-floor setting. Was like $150 or so. Just go to the store and look at them all and find one that has this feature.

I was going to suggest an Oreck but he said that he didn't want to spend much so I figured I better not.

Sounds funny but I went and bought that "swivel sweeper" you see on TV and it works great. Picks up on hardwood, carpet, and tile. Even gets little crumbs out of the grout. I paid 39.99. Just google it to see/order.
