    Two weeks notice

I just accepted a new job proposal at another company.
Let me give you the low down.....
    New Job Current Job
15 mins from home 90 mins.
    $1,500 in fuel/yr. $9,000/yr.
same pay as my current job

It's almost like getting a $7,500/yr. raise with less wear and tear on my truck.
I am supposed to receive a bonus from my current job between Feb. and March. The new company wants me to start March 5. Now here is the question........when should I tell my current employer about leaving?
I am worried if I tell them to soon, they will stall on the bonus delivery date.
It's a sizeable bonus which I don't want to leave on the table.

If they were going to fire you....would THEY give you two weeks notice??

    Doesn't seem fair does it??
I would say give them proper notice, it's the right way to do things.

sadly man, money isn't everything. i gave up a bonus to go to a new job because i was not happy w/where i was working at the time. i would not have enjoyed staying there for another 2-4 weeks just for a bonus. best move i ever made and gave them the 2 weeks notice...

    to each their own...karma though...

When I gave my 2 weeks they made me leave that day anyway so it could work against you.

Werd. If you are worried they will hold your bonus than it's lucky you are leaving anyway.

I'd like to know who thought of the 2 week notice shit? I'm guessing an employer. Just as was stated above would they give you two weeks notice if they were letting you go? It's best not to burn bridges but you can char one in the name of the bonus. I say you invent the 1 week notice if you haven't gotten your bonus before then. You don't have to tell them you've been planning to quit. Just that you found a new job and they want you to start next week.

I did not see how long you've been working for them. As far as burning bridges, You would certainly give 2 weeks notice if you were there long enough to use them on an application/resume. If you are hell bent on taking on this new endeavor, then 2 weeks prior to march 5th, give it to them in writing and let the bonus fall where it may.

they don't 'owe' him anything. a bonus is considered a gift, one of which that does not to need to be given, let alone assumed by someone that they are guaranteed to get...

the mentality that anyone 'owes' a person anything is extremely shallow and very ignorant. a person has to earn what they get. if i was a boss and i overheard an employee expecting a bonus, i wouldn't give them shit...

i promise you this. you give your 2 week notice before your bonus, and i would bet you anything you don't get one period...
