    Tune Up

I want to do a full tune up on the Corvette, being I just got it and want to know everything is fresh and create base time line to go by. The car has been running Dyno oil... I've always use Synthetic, so I know I just can't change over.

So what oil should I use? Trans and rear end fluid? I will probably stick a K&N Air Filter in. But don't know what else to order and what exactly. I personally feel it runs hot, but that's normal according to what I read. I guess the LT1 runs a bit hotter then a LS1.

But I plain to order a Hypertech 160 degree thermostat and a programmer, lower the temp and make me feel better... Maybe because I have a digital read out for temp and that's why I am anal about it. But when I look at the analog, I feel find lol. Still have not broke 85 MPh on this Vette and don't see doing it anytime soon. For some reason certain speeds feel faster then in the T/A.

No, you CAN just change over to synthetic, and should. Synthetic everywhere is what I recommend. Don't do a 160 t-stat without a tune. It will mess the tuning up because the computer will see it as too cool. Go for a 180. If it has e-fans they can be reprogrammed to lower your temps.

Remember to add a quart of coolant in with the oil so your engine gets cooled more efficiently.

I would keep info like that out of technical threads even though this is in AAG. Never know with some people

So getting a Hypertech Programer, can I just lower the temp at witch the fans turn on to work with the 160 T-Stat? I was told if switching to synthetic on a high millage motor may cause leaking?

Do an Engine flush. Then switch to sythentics all around in the car. Get a Amsoil airfilter.....FUCK K&N!!! Do plugs and wires with fuel filter. Check belt for cracking and weathering and replace if need be. Check tire pressure! Coolant flush with a different thermo. Thats all I can think of now, more will chime in

Thats a myth. Add packs for cleaning agents are about the same in most oils now a days. Sarge has given much info on this site about it. You will be safe to run different oil. Heres what most will say, if a leak is cleaned up and now leaks.......it needed to be fixed anyway

So just go ahead and switch to Synthetic oil? I don't really have the money to be fixing if I get leak, but I should not worry? Engine flush? How you do that? I know how to do an oil change and have done it on an LT1.

Do a round of "auto rx" for the first oil change. Look it up. Please don't get a hypercrap programmer. Get a real dyno tune.

Amsoil offers a flush....some say to stay away from Seafoam because it is bad for the seals. It tells the instructions on the bottle but usually you add it to your oil and run it so many miles then drain and replace with fresh oil. I understand your money issue but I am almost positive that synthetics will not cause a leak. I did it on my DD with 170,XXX and never had a problem

I figured, I could at least adjust the fans then sell it and get most of my money back. I don't have any mods yet, to want to spend that money now. Knowing I will in the feature.
