    trickle chargers

Are there any on the market that do not plug into the wall outlet but instead are battery powered?

That makes about as much sense as, well, I don't understand. Why not just buy a new battery in the spring instead of charging a battery off of a battery? Maybe Im missing something.

must be you can't get the car near anyplace to plug in? why not remove the battery and keep it somewhere near an outlet?

I'm going to guess that using a battery to charge a battery is going to result in one battery ultimately dying, thus creating the need to buy yet another battery. 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

$25 for a 1.5 amp trickle charger plugs into a wall outlet. take the battery out of the car and just plug it in. i've been doing this for years now and have had zero issues come spring.

Lol my vote is also for removing the battery and plugging it in to a wall.

A battery operated battery charger kinda seems like a waste of time.

I know for the "Battery Tender" brand they make 25 ft extension cables if your outlet is far away if that's the problem..if you want to keep the battery in the car.

No outlets where the car is being stored. I would like to keep the battery in the car because of the alarm.
I was hoping they made some type of trickle charger that ran off a 9 volt battery for example, but it doesnt look that way.

the idea behind a trickle charger is to have a constant source of power available to keep the battery fresh and "topped off". realistically there isn't any way to do that from a battery unless you are going to run several auto batteries in series to keep one car battery in top condition all winter long.

the popint of having say a "car battery" in a car is for the amps. not necessarily the volts....so even charging with say a 9 volt, just wont happen, 1 being its a 9 volt, not 12volt, and will have a very low fraction of the amps even needed to charge another battery

    Two thoughts:

    1) Don't use a trickle charger, use a battery maintainer that actually checks the battery and float charges. Putting on a trickle charger for an extended period will eventually cause an overcharge condition and ruin the battery and maybe more.

    2) What the heck are you thinking? Charge a 12 volt battery with a 9 volt???? I'm pretty sure volts always run down hill which would be very bad for your 9 volt battery. (walks away mumbling to himself and waiving his arms wildly in the air)

OK, brain had to work on this one for a while but I think I have your answer. Get a solar battery charger. You place them on the dash and plug into the cigarette lighter and they trickle charge for you. Deltran is coming out with a new line of them in January that include a controller to avoid over charging. I've used their battery tenders for a number of years and I'd trust them with a solar charger a lot more than some of the no name ones you can get at the RV store.

    Get this Sears battery charger:

    http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...u=02871230000P

It has a trickle charger built in. And when you want an instant start, it will do it. I have this charger and love it. Worth every penny..

Why not just start the car every couple of weeks and let it run up to operating temp. Better for the car anyway
