Transformers and the 2009 Camaro

The movie obviously kicks ass but does anybody know why GM decided to wait a year after the movie came out to start production of the new Camaro? If it was on the market when the movie came out, I would've thought everyone would want one and they'd be buying faster than GM could build 'em. Am I missing some complication or did General Motors really drop the ball here?

for the most part what you see is what you get. they will have to change the side mirrors to a slightly larger variant for safety purposes, production will have smaller wheels to reduce both weight and cost, and they will probably raise the roofline slightly which will take some of the rake out of the windshield...mostly to make the convertible more driveable.

as it sits though...looking at the concept, the kit car for transformers, and what we can expect to see on a showroom floor, the production car will be virtually identical to what is parading around in front of us. GM is putting too much time, effort, money, and press into the concept in film and shows to change it that much.

From what I saw on HBO... the camaro was an actual camaro. 1 of 4 in the world and they had GM reps on the set to let them know what they were allowed to and not to do with the car.

there are actually 5 floating around, and they're worth about $500,000 a pop (and yes, they're real). The reason it is taking so long is because they're coming out with an all new chassis and drive-train.

Plus it's a marketing ploy. GM is building the hype and when it comes out it will fly off the shelves. (at least a lot of the crappy v6's will. )

No, the 2009 Camaro in the movie was NOT a "real" Camaro. It was a fiberglass kit. Built on a GTO frame. Look at the wheels, the rotors are fake.

Dude, look at the wheels. The cross-drilled rotors to match the concept car are fake! Notice how there isn't even any brake calipers.

I didn't say that the car didn't have real rotors under these. You can tell the wheels have black steel frame under these fake rotors to conceal the real rotors.

So no, this isn't a "real" Camaro. No way GM was going to allow a hand built concept/prototype Camaro to be driven around and get damaged. You do realize that the Camaro concepts are hand built, right?
