    A toy from the basement.

I'm an absolute sucker for anything with an engine in it. Several years ago, I was at a friend's house and spotted a motorcycle in pieces... lots of pieces. I asked what it was and if it ran and then he asked if I wanted it. After dragging all the pieces home, it was clear the engine would need a complete rebuild as there was water in the crankcase. While the engine was gone, I disassembled the rest of the bike to clean and paint the frame and other parts. I recovered the seat and simply washed the plastic with Bleche-White, so it's not the most attractive bike. After getting it all back together, it ran but not very well due to carburetor issues. The bike went back in the basement after being ridden for two years and when Sammie asked about it again recently we tracked down a company in Florida that sells new carbs. I installed it tonight and after draining the old gas and replacing the spark plug, she fired right up and idled. I'll need to tune on it a bit, but it ran good enough to make it the 1/2 mile and back to my parents' house for a quick visit.

    1986 Yamaha PW80 Big Wheel:

I sold our larger offroad bikes a few years back, but just could not part with this or our 1978 Honda XR80 that I also restored several years ago. They are really just toys and are fun to get out every now and then to ride around the yard and over to see the neighbors. Anyone else have "toys" in their basement or garage?

Looks great Jeff! That could be your bike for down to the track. Sort of like how bob has that moped looking thing. lol

If you want a winter project I can bring that Yamaha 175 over for you. It runs fine but needs some wiring.

That is actually the plan, to throw the bike in the trailer and then be able to use it at the track to jet around on. I have more projects than I could ever finish, but would be glad to lend a hand on the repairs.

The bike will start and run but the lights dont seem to work. Also, for some reason the oil light comes on and goes off at will. lol

I need to swap out the forks as the girl dumped it and they bent. Hell, they must have been so weak because it didnt even hurt the handle bars.

No pics of the Honda, but I do need to roll it out and give it a bath. The clutch started slipping in it last time we had it out, so it also has not been ridden in some time. How difficult is a clutch replacement and does anyone know if I need any special tools?

Nice. I used to own a 1978 Honda XR80 as well. I had it for about 6 years (age 10-16) and rode it all the time. My father scored it off of my grandfather. When we got it, it didn't start so we took it to a guy that had owned dirt bikes his whole life and he got it running top-notch for a case of beer. Seemed like a fair deal to me

I miss having it. I've thought about the idea of maybe buying another one some day or a 4-wheeler. I'm going to have to wait to move to a house with some property though before that ever comes to fruition.

When I was a kid, I wanted one of those more than a moped. Nice save and resto, Jeff.

I am going to top off the oil tank and take it for a little ride when I go back out to the garage.

Sammie beat me to it tonight, so Dawn and I jumped in the Vette and went for a spin.

And yes, you are more than welcome to take the bike for a ride.

Good lord man! How big is this garage? lol

At one time I had my TL1000S in my living room. I wheeled it in to the downstairs bedroom to work on one winter. Its amazing what we idiots will do.
