Tight Budget Oil Change
I know it is hard out there on some of our members. I get PM's all the time about cutting the old race car/toy budgets to pay the bills etc. and my heart goes out to you folks...hang in there!
Allow me to share......I just went to WalMart/AutoZone and checked prices...so these prices are good as of today.
For an oil change interval from 3,000 miles to a maximum of 5,000 miles for a lightly modified to stock LSX motor......you get absolutely great protection/lubrication with any of the following oil changes.....
Oil Filters
SuperTech Filter run about $2.00 and are good filters guys.
AC Delco $2.50-$3.00 Great filter
Purolator $3.00 Great Filter
Oil
Pennzoil 5 quart jug conventional $12.00
Valvoline 5 quart jug $11.00
Valvoline MaxLife 5 quart jug $13.00
Feel very good about utilizing any of the above products in your car.

My Dad always gets purolator. Best bang for the buck.
I'm cheap so I always get my oil from Wal-Mart. 5qt of Pennzoil synthetic for $20. Great deal.
Though, I've looked at some Supertech oil filters lately and they are changing the insides. They look scary to me. My trucks filter is now different not sure about the car though.

From what I understand based on other people's UOA's... I would hands down take M1 over RP just from the RP break down.
Really the only bad thing about M1 is how expensive it is, the same price they were charging when they HAD a different/ superior product over the others. M1 is in the same basestock class as the other. Im no Sarge on oil, he'll chime in.

mobil 1 isnt bad oil. its just a rip off at what they currently charge for it because its now a group 3 oil. It's no longer full synthetic and more along the lines of a synthetic blend, yet they still sell it at the 5 to 6 bucks a qt. Yet they still market it as full synthetic. It gets outgunned by PP.

Blue- 2002 Z28 Camaro M6
Hard to beat only 20 bucks for a good oil. It is what has been going in my Camaro for while now. Actually finding out about oil for the LS is what brought me to this site. Only part I hate is buying the one extra quart which cost so much more then when you buy it in the 5 quart jug.
I have also been tempted to start using K&N oil filters just because of the nut welded on, and from all that I have heard it is a decent filter (though a bit pricey).

One more time....
Royal Purple performance results verified from the lab is it is garbage. Totally overpriced garbage. Shell Rotella returns better results.

And for the record PP is up to $23 bucks a 5qt jug as of yesterday. Valvoline Synthetic was $19 bucks. PP is better but a $4 increase is putting it close to Amsoil preferred customer delivered cost.

I had some 10/40 Royal Purple hanging around , I put it in my DD toyota 1.6L. After 4k miles it looked like black water when I dumped it. Im glad I didnt run that junk in the Camaro...

The 5qrt Jugs are almost always more expensive than single quart jugs per quart when I price it.
