Ticket Question
Well, I got pulled over this morning doing 41 in a 30 and I was in my Ranger. Anyways, it was a trainee I guess cause she was with another officer that was watching and helping her out. I pull over where it's safe for them and put the keys on the dash and don't do anything til she gets to the window. I give her my info, but forgot my wallet so she took my name and all. Anyways, she comes back and says I'm just getting a warning and to slow down.
I was wondering if I didn't get a ticket cause she was a trainee, I didn't have my license on me, or just got lucky?

I'd say you are lucky, I have a cousin who is a trainee, and he can write tickets as long as he is with another cop. It probably helped you out that you put the keys on the dash and pulled to safer location too.

ok you've had your luck so your chances of getting lucky with the cops are now down exponentially, keep that in mind

The FTO was probably trying to get her some dui/drug experiance. On contact you probably seemed clean and they ran ya..came back clean and gave you a warning. Or she could've just been practicing using her "discretion".

I've been pulled over many times, but never took my keys out of the ignition and put them on the dash. This is the first I've ever heard of such a thing. I've never had a cop tell me to do it either. Is this just something that isn't done in Wisconsin, or have alot of you pulled your keys after being pulled over?

It's just more of a courtesy thing.. kinda puts the cop at ease cause they know you aren't gonna drive off.

I once got pulled over in NJ for a burned out license plate light. Those who live in Malhboro, NJ area know what kind of cops they have.
So anyway, I didn't even have my wallet on me. No registration, no License and no insurance....all I had was my credit card. I have the cop the credit card and he said; " Are you trying to swipe change your way out of it"
He didn't give me any tickets. Just reminded me to remember to not forget my shit and fix the light ASAP!
Now thats what I call LUCK.

I don't know how it works in other states, but here if you don't have your license all they can give you a ticket for is no license. They don't tell you that, they just let you think they are being cool and giving you a warning because they are nice. I got out of an 84 in a 70 once because I didn't have my license, and we all know they aren't just going to be "cool" and let you off with 14 over. It is cool of them to let you off without a ticket for no license though. The reasoning here is that if you don't have your license you could go to court to fight a ticket and say it wasn't you and they can't give any proof that it was since the person getting pulled over didn't present the license. They can't issue a ticket to a licensed driver without the license present to verify it is being issued to the correct license holder.
