The thread heard round the World (Literally)
So last night while polishing off some beers, I finished my sled build. Here is tons of pictures starting from the day I bought it to how it stands right now. I started this build using a un-bent frame and as the pictures will describe, I did a frame up build. Its a 2003 Ski Doo Rev 800 X. I've dropped 20 lbs off of the 454 lb dry weight and added roughly 10 more hp on top of the 135 hp stock. So that should make this sled significantly faster then a stock 800 and let me run with newer sleds (Except Turbo models) So enough BSing, here are the pictures.
The sled I picked up, insurance total
The new frame to start with
The rip apart of old sled

Some random pictures of parts and assembly
Some pictures of the engine. Found out that it had threw a rod earlier in its life (Good for me ) So newer crank, rods, pistons. We split the case to re-do every seal in the motor since sucking air is very very bad for a 2 stroke.

Seal retainer to stop the PTO seal (Crank Seal) from pushing out under extreme pressure
And final pictures
And what it looks like now. Before pictures and after. Much improvement if you ask me
Before:
And now
I took a stock sled and added a ceramic summit pipe, revalved and rebuilt front shocks, cold air reed kit, etc.... Should be a fun lil ride

Snowmobiles...the only motorized object with a fart can bigger than a Honda.

Except this fart can sounds better then a H/C LS1.......ask me how I know
This is one of the sickest sounding engines I've heard period. The silencer shaved 10 lbs just itself and when the power (exhaust) valves open......

Never rode in a v-tec so I wouldn't know
The exhaust valves open when the rpms get to a certain point. The exhaust pressure opens them and the exhaust port is almost doubled in size. It changes the sound of the motor and gives it more power. I need to get video of it running and see if I can find a video on youtube of the valves opening.
Here is a pic of them.

Not the same as flying down the trail but this is what I hope to be doing this year
They are the same thing except a little longer track which I don't need

Thats pretty much what v-tec does but chances are you have been in a car or around a car with v-tec and just never noticed. Only honda calls it v-tec the other companies have there own names Newer truck engines have variable valve timing, so do turbo subarus the evo, lexus's, and tons of other cars. They just don't tell everyone like honda does because there cars or trucks usually have other selling points.

I can tell you it def helps with this 2 stroke. Is it like a shot of NOS, not even close but it does bump up the power by 5 hp or so which on a sled is a big increase for its weight. I may have rode in something and not known about it
If someone sends me a v-tec sticker, I'll put it on

Yep just like a motorcycle 5-10hp is noticiable when it only weighs 400-500lbs.

Houghton got 3 inches last night and suppose to snow the next 7 days. Up there its no big deal to get a 12" storm. I hoping for 12" to 24" by the time we go up there. I love to carve and play in the powder, trails are fun too

I will be riding in January when we go up to visit my grandparents in Hiles. I usually ride trails and lakes. The trails mainly to go to town for food or supplies, usually ride around the lake when I am ice fishing.
Sometimes I ride my friend minibike on the ice, now that is challenge whether or not there is snowLast edited by Zinergy; 12-01-2011 at 10:49 AM.
