For those who enjoy classical music

A little something I directed for German TV this sunday. Already on youtube... Just found it looking for something else, so I thought I'd post it.

Wagner: Die Walküre (The Valkyrie, Wotan's goodbye, in my opinion one of the greatest pieces he's written!)

    (Part 1 and 2)

    Singer: René Pape
    Conductor: Alan Gilbert
    NDR Symphony Orchestra
    Musik und Kongresshalle Lübeck, Germany

...the whole concert went two and a half hours, long ass program!

...and of course I hit 125 mph going there!

Good post! I played the piano a little and then moved on to the Trombone and I picked up an appreciation for instrumentals and classical works from Palestrina to John Williams.

Here are some that I like a lot:

    Johan Sebastian Bach
    "Air"
    Orchestral Suite N° 3 in D Major_BWV 1068

And of course the immortal Agnus Dei "Adagio for Strings" op.11 by Samuel Barber

    Palestrina
    Super Flumina Babylonis

Nunc Dimittis (as performed by the Tallis Scholars ensamble)

Wagner? How German of you... haha, but he was a great composer. And that guy has an amazing voice.

Barber is one of my all time favorite American composers. So much of his music is great. (Baltimore Symphony put out a great CD)

I am more of a Mahler, Brahms fan myself

For you Bach lovers a little snippit of something you don't get to see to often.

The ride of the Valkyries! Talk about dramatic music-

I like much Bach, very dynamic and 'busy'

    Franz Liszt-

It is funny how modern youth think that a rock band is a 'classic' because they sounded good for 3 decades- much classical music has been pleasing millions of people for centuries lots of tremendous music out there- It is a great big world, get out and explore a little of it-

wow, that about sums it up! i always say i listen to the best five percent of everything. pop, rock, jazz, classic, genre free.
i like bach, but not all the time (goes for baroque music in general). i have a thing for earlier baroque and renaissance stuff, like rameau, lully, visée or mudarra.

btw, funny you mention the ride of the valkyries, that was part of last sundays program where the first two clips of this thread are from.

in fritz langs movie "m" from 1931 a city is hunting a psychotic child murderer (great performance by peter lorre). the only music in the movie is "in the hall of the mountain king", whistled by the killer on the prowl.

    spooky.
