TRIPLE BLACK- 2000 CAMARO SS M6 #2100
Thinking about buying a Lightning...
So Im seriously considering scooping up a Ford F150 Lightning to join the SS and was wondering if anyone here has one and has the pros and cons to share about them. I really want a truck and have always liked them, even though its a Ford Thanks!

Good trucks watch out it seems the trucks take more abuse than the cobra dose don't know why just ends up that way. But if you want faster get a cyclone much cooler.

Problem with the Cyclone is that it is useless as a truck.
400-500lb bed capacity (I've seen both numbers tossed around) and ZERO towing capacity equals a 2 seat car that looks like a truck and has bad seats in it.
At least the Lighting can still be used for a trip to Home Depot or to tow the boat to the lake.

Burple- 1966 427 Cobra Replica
I've shopped for Lightnings before with no real sense of seriousness. Every time I found something that hadn't been ridden hard and hung up wet it would be just as pricey as buying something like an SRT-10 Ram.

sold: 1999 firebird- 1998 Trans Am
my cousin had one, was a blast, total swiss army knife of a vehicle because it was fast but also a real useable truck. if that's what I was in the market for, I would totally get one.

Arctic White, red/gray- 1997 Corvette, 92 Typhoon
First off its Syclone guys.
Second off it has such a low tow and bed rating mainly because of the intercooler system. The intercooler pump only comes on under WOT which is not good when your are driving around with a load, that can be fixed with a A2A intercooler swap. The Typhoon is the same way but it also has self leveling suspension with a air compressor which on a Typhoon you need to swap in regular mechanical suspension to tow. I have seen 3500 boats and tailers pulled with Syclones and 1000lbs in the bed.
Third off dont buy a Syclone to be used as a truck only get one if you want a nice cruising truck that has balls and is collectable. The drivetrain might be strong but these trucks are old and have alot of common problems.
The lightning is better at being a truck than a Syclone. The only issue I have heard of lightnings is popping plugs because of short threads in the engine. The lightning can tow but it cant off road. so if you want a fast truck that can tow and you dont ever offroad a lightning is a good fit.Last edited by Zinergy; 05-16-2011 at 09:32 AM.

Lightning ftmfw! Just don't mod it too much, the 5.4 had a issue with spitting out spark plugs with too much boost.

TRIPLE BLACK- 2000 CAMARO SS M6 #2100
Thanks guys! I really am looking for something that can be used as a truck but can also be fun to drive as well. This wont be for a few months but I figured I would get some opinions first. The mods will be mild with just some basic bolt-ons and tune. And yeah Ill mostly use it to bring back parts from Harry's

my dad had one, put the pulley, exhaust , intake etc on it and it was a beast on the low end. i loved it but cons for me would be thats its way too cramped being a regular cab and interior (typical Ford) is very bland. Power and handling is outstanding

2003 and up dont have the plug problem. With that said my 2001 just turned200,000 with out problem. Changed axle seals and intercooler pump only thing thats been done.
Cons are tires aint cheap if you go factory and they dont last long. The trucks are still very expensive as far as i'm concerned.
Dont expect much more than 15-16 mile to the gallon. Mine made 380hp and 480tq with a 4# pulley and cai and tune. Its my daily driver and have to say it is one fun vehicle.
