mike inez and jerry cantrell are great musicians... but its not alice in chains without layne.

jerry and layne had an amazing haunting harmony sound with their voices that really tied in the alice in chains sound and made it unique. the new singer is good, and its great to finally hear a new AIC album. not sure they should still be called AIC.

Would you buy a trans am if some Ford produced it with a 4.6?

    Just not the same IMO.

Been a fan of them since I could put a tape into a cassette player.

The same comments were made when Sammy Hagar took the vocals for Van Halen and it seemed to work out pretty well for them. I agree that it won't be the same AIC we have all grown to love, but you can't take away from the music that just gets you pumping. Everyone just needs to have an open mind.

true, but the difference is... VH took a more serious turn with sammy joined and got away from the bubble gum tv game show rock that they were with DLR. VH changed as a band, and had a new sound.

AIC, is trying to remain the same sound as if layne is still around.

I enjoyed the song and have every album from Sap, Facelift, Dirt, Jar of Flies, Alice in Chains and Nothing Safe: Best of the Box. As long as Cantrell is still on board, they'll always be Alice in Chains to me.

I love AIC, but the bands brilliance was tied into Layne and Cantrells chemistry together. However, I guarantee you anyone that hears an old AIC song and goes WHOA SHIT! Says that because they are blown away by that incredible voice. Yeah good music can be made after his death but its not the same deal. Its like having a v6 vette that has a turbo, yeah it might be fast and it still performs but the mystique is gone. Van Halen is a horrible example, they werent ever "brilliant" PURELY cause of a frontman. Eddies guitar is what sold millions of albums. It just so happens David Lee Roth was a hell of a show, and personality and sang some great songs. But David Lee Roth isnt even in the same galaxy as Layne Staley voice wise. Disclaimer: previous statement is my OPINION

While I am glad to see these guys making new music I agree that it is not AIC without Layne. As said previously Layne and Jerry are what made AIC one of the best bands ever. I will still check it out though, as I love Jerry Cantrell.
